SUSANA URBANO

Through the interior design of a terrace, the interior designer takes the opportunity to bring to the table two major issues that concern her: women’s freedom of expression and care for our planet.

The design of the terrace made by Susana Urbano for the new edition of Marbella Design & Art 2022 -which was held from November 3 to 13 at the Palace of Trade Fairs and Congresses of Marbella- is a call for the freedom of expression of the woman in an universal way, a hymn to the importance of being and feeling free in all the cultures and also an invitation to take care of our planet.

Through careful interior design, the space creates an ideal atmosphere for conversation about nature, our freedoms, art and design.

A Picture Of Silence That Says It All

The freedom and luxury of speaking and remaining silent is reflected in Stefan Postol’s interpretation of a photography: ‘Blissful Silence’ by Oscar Munar. A woman with a turban, who does not show her hair and wears a mesh on her face, raises her finger imploring silence and invites us to reflect.

The image, a great protagonist both in size and because it is an element that generates debate, reminds us of the importance of reflecting and the intelligence to know when it is time to speak and when it is convenient to remain silent. Something, as exciting as it is evident, that Susana Urbano has wanted to make visible in this space “because unfortunately it is an unattainable luxury for many women in some cultures and countries.”

The photography is opposite to a work by Arturo Álvarez, called Agura, 5 wise men, 5 aluminum figures that play with light and shadow and invite to start a conversation.

A LUXURY SETTING WHERE SUSTAINABILITY

Is Key

Taking care of the planet is key in this unique terrace. Susana Urbano has taken care of every detail, in such a way that priority has been given to 100% sustainable materials.

The outdoor kitchen, a luxury only suitable for climates like that of the privileged Marbella, alludes to the Mediterranean Sea that bathes its coast. The outdoor kitchen island, designed by Susana Urbano exclusively for this space, is made of aluminum and covered with an impressive latticework, which with its undulating shapes emulates the waves of the sea, made of bamboo. The countertop is a marble porcelain, in an intense blue like the Marbella sea. On the wall, the marine dynamism is represented by a three-dimensional sculpture.

Freedom is evoked through the outdoor furniture that has been meticulously selected, with a combination of colorful fabrics and patterns.

NATURE AND FREEDOM, A GIFT TO APPRECIATE Susana Urbano explains that her inspiration for this space “are all women on the planet and my goal is to highlight the importance of being free and taking care of this wonderful world in which we live. Nature and freedom have been given to us and we must be aware of the importance of caring for them, respecting them and contributing to making a positive change on the Earth that we all inhabit”.
