A tour of OMEO’s bespoke secret spaces

When one thinks of a well-designed home, ideas such as a contemporary kitchen, a grand entrance, and a cozy living room come to mind. What one doesn’t usually immediately resort to however, is the idea that some spaces of the home will forever be concealed - only to be known and entered by the homeowner. This leaves only the walls left to gossip about what happens within the secret interiors.

MEO is a high-end brand that specializes in bespoke interiors and furniture collections. Each design is tailored to the client’s desired lifestyle and curated with uncompromised attention to detail. OMEO’s brand is based off of personal connection and therefore includes a collaborative approach to interior design. Their designs feature edgy architectural details, a mix of natural materials and bespoke accessories that embody an indoor/outdoor lifestyle and meet the client’s needs. It is the attention to detail and the visionary expertise of Olivia O. – founder and creative director of the brand – that allowed the team to introduce bespoke secret spaces for the first time, resulting in the concept taking over Marbella by storm. As a result, we give a tour of the secret spaces or element covers that OMEO has designed in their projects, as well as which ones are most popular amongst homeowners.

As the old saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens. In this case however, when one door closes, another one is camouflaged. A favored method to tuck away secret spaces that is proven to popular each year is the classic secret door.

This secret door (1) was built using sand stone and was fitted in - piece by piece. This camouflages it and acts as a puzzle piece that merges into the natural stone wall beside it. Once opened, the door leads into a secret gym and spa area.

A secret space doesn’t always have to have a door as an entryway however, sometimes it can be an element as mysterious as a bookshelf. This bespoke bookshelf/door (2) within this entertainment area was installed with a hidden rail in the ceiling, allowing the homeowner to slide it to the right and enter the luxe secret spa that doubles as a panic room – finished with soundproof properties as well as a sound system.

Bookshelves being used to hide secret rooms was trending this season. This luxurious, bespoke bookshelf (3) covers a complete wall in this home, with the possibility of opening up the hidden door located in the midsection – leading to a renovated bar / second living room area.

If one moves further down the tunnel of traditional ways to conceal a room, a more unique method that has been used by OMEO takes the spotlight.

In the exclusive installation of this wall (4), it was built with mirrors and a wooden frame (finished to resemble metal), where it can be pulled outwards to reveal two hidden doors in the home. One leading down into a dynamic man cave – comprised of a wine bodega, a TV, a spa and more. The other opening up to a hallway, leading up to the private master suite.

There’s nothing like hanging some beautiful, intricate art to decorate the walls of a home and give meaning to them. What makes this even more interesting is what could be hiding behind the artwork.

Moving onto the more decorative elements of a home, using art to conceal specific elements or rooms in the home will always prove to be a unique conversation starter. An example of this is this foldable cover (5) comprised of 8 individual, hand-painted artworks envelop the television while keeping it in harmony with the aesthetic of the living room it is placed in.

One can take it a step further within the entertainment area – as this particular interior of the home deserves a grand and fascinating entrance - by adding a twist on classic vintage art in this particular OMEO project (6) where a James Bond movie poster doubles as a secret door, opening up to a home spa and gym.

If one walks down the hallway just far enough to stop at the console (7), it’ll be clear that it is not just a simple piece of furniture as a familiar furry friend starts to sniff at the floor. Another element of secrecy that OMEO specializes in is one for your dogs. This bespoke Oak console doubles as a bed for your pup and can be customized in your desired finish.

Last but not least, safety is one of the biggest concerns when it comes to the construction of new homes and adding one’s valuables to the interior. As seen in all of their projects, OMEO takes this concept seriously, and when it comes to hiding elements of the home for practical and security use - Olivia is no stranger to ensuring it is done with each detail taken care of.

A must-have that is installed into each OMEO project includes a secret and aesthetically-pleasing artwork that hides all electrical systems (8) in the home or any compartment that the homeowner may desire be covered. This is always an attractive element to add when finishing off an interior styling.

OMEO’s design of secret spaces extends further than just the home. The team specializes in using secret doors, spaces and messages in retail and hospitality spaces too. In this restaurant/club OMEO took inspiration from the jungle and all things wild to introduce secret messages in floor tiles and walls (9). Each surface and wall was finished with help from a local lettering artist and painter, and each theme was chosen to harmonize with the wallpaper.

These secret spaces and elements designed by OMEO is just the beginning for this luxurious interior design brand, as the team continues their journey on working exclusively with clients to achieve their dream (and mysterious) homes in Marbella and along the Costa Del Sol.
