Stained Glass Candle Box

Festive Cookie Workshop

Sunday 12th October Full Day 10am - 4.30pm

Wednesday 15th October Full Day 10am - 4pm

Join our very popular tutor Cathi to create the most wonderful colourful stained glass candle boxes, they cast the most beautiful tinted rays when lit by a simple night light.

Come along and join Dawn who will teach you how to make, bake and decorate delicious cookies all Christmas themed to give as gifts, hang from your Christmas tree or simply just enjoy with a cuppa.

Cathi will teach you how to cut coloured glass safely, wrap each glass piece with copper foil and solder these pieces together. The four sides of a candle box will be made, ready to fix together with a base.

The morning will begin in the kitchen mixing the given recipe, rolling out and cutting various shapes using cutters before baking the cookies.

A choice of designs and templates are provided with a selection of coloured glass to work with. Cathi will demonstrate how to use all tools, materials and processes safely. At the end of the day take home your very own stained glass candle boxes. Cathi’s studio is based in South Lincolnshire and works on a variety of bespoke commissions for heritage and modern buildings. Course Fee £70.00

Sketch Book Sketching Wednesday 15th October Full Day 10am - 4pm A sketchbook makes a wonderful visual diary and can be a liberating experience. After a short introduction on how and why Karen loves drawing the world around her in her sketchbook, the group will walk around part of the gardens and choose various subjects to sketch. Working at your own pace, whether sketching a single flower or full landscape, the aim is to capture something that has caught your imagination. Karen will then talk to each individual so you can gain the most out of your sketching. By the end of the workshop you would have begun your sketchbook journey. What would your next sketch be? A sketchbook, a couple of drawing pencils and biros will be supplied. Course Fee £65

Devore Silk Scarves

Thursday 16th October Full Day 10am - 4pm

This is an exciting opportunity to explore the magical process of devore with Lorraine who has been teaching for the past 9 years.

On this workshop Susi will show you how to make a Willow Christmas Tree as a table or floor standing decoration (this is a similar process to making a small obelisk). Susi will also show you how to make a basic willow wreath that can be decorated with anything, real or fake to give your home that extra special Christmas decoration.

Whilst they cool you will be colouring the icings, modelling paste, sugar paste and royal icing and to run through the equipment and a short explanation about design. After lunch the fun begins with decorating, Father Christmas, Christmas Trees, Snowmen, Christmas Puddings to name a few. You will then gift wrap in cellophane and ribbon before placing in a presentation box/carrier ready for you to take home.

Please bring bits and pieces along to decorate your pieces, if time permitting.

The Devore technique is where the pile of the silk velvet is chemically burnt away. No artistic skills required but stunning results guaranteed.

Susi ran a workshop here in May and was a very popular tutor.

Linda is an expert bread maker and an inspirational demonstrator with many years’ experience. Linda also presents food shows, on local radio stations and regularly writes articles for country magazines.

Rag Rugging Wednesday 1st October Full Day 10am - 4pm

Friday 3rd October Full Day 10am - 4pm

Using inspiration from the Gardens, Lorraine will guide you through how to design and start to make a beautiful rag rug cushion, rug or wall hanging on this informative, fun and relaxing workshop. Rag rugging is a great way of using up all those spare bits of fabric or old clothing to preserve precious memories. Lorraine will cover both hooking and pegging techniques so it will be suitable for all abilities.

During the workshop Fiona will help you design and make an A4 panel, using the direct mosaic technique. Fiona will talk about various materials, tools and cutting techniques, giving advice on adhesives and grout. You will leave with a panel that you can display on any interior wall.

Lorraine will supply some fabric but start collecting your fabric and come along and join Lorraine to create your very own unique work of art, a beautiful keepsake created by you.

Our coach house situated within the old court yard, is ideal for our short courses - a beautiful and inspiring location.

Lorraine has been teaching for the past 9 years and has 13 years experience within the textile industry.

Our tearoom will be open offering home made cakes and lunches, but you are welcome to bring your own packed lunch.

Woodland Felted Animals and Autumn Garland Sunday 5th October Full Day 10am - 4pm Join Eve on this beautiful enchanted workshop. Eve will teach you how to create whimsical needlefelt woodland animals such as squirrels, birds, hedgehogs, mice etc. using various different types of wool to sculpt your 3D animal bodies. Learn to card and mix colours of wool to create different colours. Information about different felting equipment will also be shared.

All materials are supplied and will include a selection of vitreous glass, glazed and unglazed ceramics, glass drops, china and millefiori. Plenty of books will be on hand as source material, but you are welcome to bring any photos or design ideas that you would like to use. Course Fee £65.00

Thursday 2nd October Full Day 10am - 4.30pm Sue is a local Basket maker and runs one of our most popular courses here. Spend the day weaving a bird for your house or garden. You can make one large bird or two small birds in a day. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners. Sue will also go through how you could grow willow in your garden and how to prepare willow for weaving. Using just a few basic techniques you will learn how to make a framework for your bird and how to add details to create either a pheasant, chicken, duck or goose. The sculpture is finished with a random weave which covers the framework. This is a fun day, and a great introduction to willow weaving. All materials and tools are supplied. Course Fee £70.00

Working with small pieces of vintage and retro china, stained glass, mosaic tiles and venetian millefiori, Fiona will demonstrate how you can create up to five pieces of jewellery in a relaxed and friendly workshop.

Gift Wrapping Masterclass Gift wrapping and ribbon designer Jane Means will be providing a hands on gift wrapping workshop. Jane has trained staff at Harrods and Fortnum and Mason, and will share the tricks of the trade so you can wrap like a professional, whatever the shape, occasion or budget.

Unique and beautiful pieces all designed and made by you, these will make marvellous unique presents.

You will be hands on and learn the basics as well as tackling awkward shapes. Learn to tie the perfect bow, this mini masterclass will be packed full of tips and ideas.

Eve has exhibited at art galleries and shows throughout Britain and America, and has taught workshops at the Country Living Fair in London as well as having tutorials published in Your Home Magazine. All materials are provided, just bring yourself and your imagination.

You can choose from a selection of blanks including pendants brooches, rings, earrings, hairclips and cufflinks and learn how to cut the materials using mosaic nippers.

Eve will then teach how to create a whimsical garland for your home, using the wet felting method using wool, silk, sparkle and other natural fibres to wet felt leaves, acorns, small flowers and bunting.

Flower Arranging Wednesday 8th October Full Day 10am - 4pm Barbara is back with us after her very popular May workshop. Barbara will be doing an Autumn Flower arranging workshop which brings together all the rich colours, berries and fruits of the season. Traditional designs can contain an abundance of flowers and foliage. The contemporary designs can feature single blooms with modern structures, created with items available in your garden. Fruits and vegetables can be used as an extra dimension to enhance your designs. Moving forward to the Christmas Season, we can also use some extra ornaments to bring some sparkle to our festive designs. Barbara will show a selection of designs, both traditional and contemporary, and you will take home two complete arrangements. Course Fee £65.00

Animal Clay Sculpture Friday 10th October Full Day 10am - 4.40pm Maggie from Zoo Ceramics joins us to show you how to design in sculptural clay. You will develop skills to construct pinch pots, coils, slabs, modelling and sculpting to make your animal. Animal designs will be available to work from, or of course you can make a sculpture of your own pet or animal, just ensure you bring lots of images of your pet/animal in the pose you would like to sculpt your piece. Not forgetting to include images for each angle, top, bottom, sides. Once finished it will have to be taken back to Zoo Ceramics so that the piece can be dried. Once bisque and glaze fired in artistic oxide stain, it can be returned to us for you to collect. It can be displayed inside or outside once fired. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and professional artists. Zoo Ceramics creates ceramics animal giftware and sculpture for many outlets including John Lewis. Course Fee £80.00
