STANLEY & BLANDFORD Sarah Philp from Stanley Barracks in Bovington and Mark Guy from the Colours Restaurant in Blandford should be congratulated as both have successfully completed their NVQ’s in Professional Cookery Level 2. They are awaiting certification from Wiltshire College. Sarah was the first candidate to achieve from the 43 Wessex SMAC to acheive this qualification through the Wiltshire College,.

WESSEX SMAC BOVINGTON & LULWORTH Bovington and Lulworth Garrison should be congratulated on their accreditation to ISO14001 in January this year. It all began in January 2008 when it was proposed without mentioning any names (Thanks Mike), that it would be a great idea if we went for this. ‘We didn’t even have a manual’ or an Environmental Management System so we had to start at Page 1 “In the beginning”. I won’t go into too much detail or bore you with my sleepless nights and writer’s cramp but, 750 pages later “give or take” 50 and hey presto, a complete Environmental Manual! Now all we had to do was improve the environmental profile of the Garrison using our new found information booklet! MQA of Hospitality Assured fame carried out the external audit. The assessment process lasted 9 days. 65 members of staff were interviewed and lot of blood, sweat and tears were shed, but we got there in the end. A couple of special mentions should go to Darren Langlands, who is now the Garrison Environmental Sponsor for Avenance, AKA “Mr Waste”. Jean Barnes, the Site Manager and all interviewees who, thankfully were extremely professional and gave the right answers on the day, including the Operations Director who filled in at the last minute as the Head Office representative, and not forgetting the Marketing team at Bromsgrove of course for producing a ‘Gucci’ piece of work for the Auditors to scrutinise.

Above are photos of staff at Blandford who entered the in-house “Shrove Tuesday Competition” - to create a unique recipe for Pancake day. The staff came up with an oriental shredded pork pancake which they sold as a retail option and made the day great fun for their customers.

WESSEX SMAC HULLAVINGTON Military Chef CPL Dean was nominated as April’s Employee of the Month for being focused and motivated in leading PAYD within our Colours Restaurant. Hullavington also held a Disco/Karaoke in the 20Twenty bar on the 30th April which was hugely successful! - A big thank you to all involved!

NEWS . . . EAST MIDLANDS GRANTHAM Motivational Speech

Charity Quiz!

On Wednesday 20th May South Kesteven District Council organised a Trade Event for local businesses as part of their Economic Development strategy.

On 9th May a charity quiz night and raffle was held in Grantham. W02 Scarborough and his wife Sally approached Avenance staff to donate their time to run the bar for the evening which they were delighted to do. Retail Manager Nicky Roche and Jo Swinbourne (pictured below) volunteered their service, contributing to a fantastic evening where £3,360 was raised for Great Ormond Street Hospital and South Lincs Blind Society.

Tim Campbell (1st winner of the Apprentice) was the main guest speaker so I took my management team to listen to his speech as part of their professional development. His theme was ‘Business retention in the current economic climate’. It was a motivational speech which could be translated into all levels of management – presented in an entertaining and interactive way. Tim came and sat chatting with us before going on the stage – he said he couldn’t comment on who he thought was favourite this year as he already knew who had won!

WORDS FROM

Nicky Roche and Jo Swinbourne with W02 Scarborough

John Mc Ewen I am excited to welcome you to the latest issue of Evolve, the EIS employee Newsletter that has taken Elior UK by storm. Everyone is asking for additional copies, from colleagues to clients…perhaps this is a good opportunity to charge! This edition is incredible to say the least with some great contributions from a wide selection throughout the EIS family. We have been consistently welcoming new contributors, new articles and plenty of newsworthy editorials into our newsletter, and building solid relationships throughout our Division… keep the news coming as its great to share our successes with everyone. As I state in every newsletter, beginning with our inaugural issue, our circular began with a simple idea and a simple vision - to become an information source for the EIS community. With each issue, we move vastly closer to that vision. In our last issue we celebrated Chris Woolley attaining employee of the year and indeed many of our team achieving an EAE nomination, what a great achievement. In this issue, we expand our editorial offerings to spotlight on two new great concepts introduced at Blandford Camp with some great input from our client on site. We also focus on a new team member Rachel Thorton, Bid Manager and welcome Mocha Plus headed by Mark Palmer to the EIS family. Both Rachel and Mark have produced a ‘spotlight’ piece. I know that you will find this Evolve issue highly informative. At the same time, we hope that you will laugh, learn something new, and most of all tell your friends and colleagues about Evolve. We are only as good as the support we get from our readers.

As we branch out further with each issue to expand on content, we ask for your support, ideas, and patience as we try our best to touch on areas often missed. We seek to strengthen and build partnerships with our clients, customers and beyond, to do our part in supporting Elior UK and positioning our Divisions as a supplier of choice. Finally I’d like thank all contributors to Evolve from the bottom of my heart. I look forward to seeing your contributions for the next issue already at the planning stage as well as a growing number of new contributors already lined up for our September issue.

Partnering a “shooting” success in Wessex 43 Wessex SMAC saw it’s 2nd anniversary in April. To celebrate and further cement our relationship with our client, which we consider of the utmost importance, we hosted an event with the purpose of encouraging partnering. What better way of achieving this than putting both teams together with 20 bore shotguns!! We arrived at Laine’s shooting school situated in a picturesque Wiltshire village. Some of the team were quite nervous, although bacon butties and hot strong tea soon made for a jovial atmosphere. We were joined by our shooting instructors, one of which would not have been out of place in Britain’s got Talent. His great humour and wit soon put us all at ease. After a short tute by the instructors we strode out ready for action, surprisingly in beautiful sunshine. Arriving at the Clay Pigeon trap area, we were issued with ear defenders, a cap and Perspex glasses with absolutely no GUCCI or D&G labels insight. Things were set to get worse for Captain Vicky Austin and myself in that once the instructors had discovered that we had one eye more dominant than the other, Vaseline was smeared over the appropriate lense of our glasses, not a look expected to catch on. We started with some elementary lessons and very soon everyone, without exception, were hitting the clays. Quite a shock for some of us, whilst others excelled, particularly Major Simon Pearce who made the whole thing look ridiculously easy…there’s always one! Of course for the competitive amongst us the fun really started once the tuition was completed and the competitions got under way. The highlight during the competions for Avenance and MoD personnel alike was the tense shoot off between

Chris Tyler and Captain Vicky Austin, it was so close that it all came down to the last shot. Both were instructed that the winner would be the first to hit the clay, of which there would only be one. The group went quiet the tension mounted “PULL” shouted the instructor. All eyes focused on the clay winging it’s way towards us, the tension suddenly broken by a loud “BANG”. Off went the first gun, it was Chris, “MISS” was the call. Almost immediately another “BANG” this time Vicky. Before our eyes we saw the clay shatter, the group erupted not to applaud as you might imagine, but to ensure that Chris’ moment of been beaten by a girl was exploited to the full. With the spirit of true sportsmanship Chris congratulated Vicky shaking hands and sporting a very red face. Kerrie (Contract Clerk), Lyn and Simon from Brigade teamed up in the concluding competition and what dark horses they proved to be. They stormed home to the number one position, with a fabulous hit rate of 28/30. On return to the clubhouse the awards were presented to Captain Vicky Austin, best in women’s, Anne Littlejohn in second place and

Best of the best - Chris Tyler & Vicky Austin Sarah Wilkins in third. Chris Tyler best in men’s, WO1 Brendon Wood in second place and Charlie Hughes and WO1 Mick Laing in joint third. I could not possibly conclude this report without a mention of Teasel, the cutest chocolate cocker spaniel who stole the hearts of the chaps and girls alike. His trick for the day was to recover the missed clays. As you can imagine the patter of his little paws heading your way was not always welcome especially when you thought that no one had noticed that bad shot! An absolutely fabulous day. Which all, without exception, really enjoyed. Relationships have been further developed which will be key to the success of the Contract going forward.

RE-LAUNCH - A SUCCESS!!

Blandfords newsest eatery!!

On 10th May 2009, Blandford residents were treated to some new and exciting entertainment at the newly revitalised Denbury Bowl. We also launched a brand new food offer, right next to the GIII bar called CHEQUERS DELI.

STRIKE - customers enjoying the free bowling!

Blandford staff - Cherie, Gaynor and Frank

One of our junior bowlers

Working with the client we devised a 2 pronged plan to re-launch the Denbury Bowl, targeting the two key groups of customers based on camp. Firstly, the Phase 1 and 2 soldiers and secondly the large number of families living at Blandford. We recognised that both groups of customers use the Denbury Bowl facilities in very different ways, so we needed to tailor our provision and the entertainment accordingly. For the Families we devised a Family Funday on Sunday10th May, including:• A children’s entertainer - Richard the first who amused a lot of the grown ups too! • A face painter - Who busily turned the kids into ladybirds and superheroes! • Free bowling for the families! • A fantastic new kids menu! - Our kiddie’s meal deals went down a treat and they loved the new place mats which feature various games.

Site Manager Bernadette Cooper said “It was good to see the families taking part on the camp. We aren’t just here for the soldiers anymore. Everyone that lives and works on camp are now our customers and the support and fun we all had on the Family Funday day proves it!”

Chequers Deli entrance at Blandford Camp

Chequers is a unique and modern brand, combining the best of the high street into one simple shop. Designed to reflect the fast and demanding pace of living in a modern package.

On the 13th May, it was the turn of the young Phase 1 and 2 soldiers. We booked a brilliant girl group called Charleeze Angels, provided some great drinks offers and if that wasn’t enough we even treated them to free bowling all night long!

The face painter was busy turning the kids into ladybirds and superheroes !!

The result – another huge success!! The feedback was excellent from the client and soldiers alike! We’re busy working on some fantastic new offers to entice the soldiers back in for some more fun! Due to the success of these two events, more entertainment and fun is being planned for the coming weeks and months’, ensuring every customer has a great time whilst on Blandford Camp. On Monday 11th May, Chequers Deli opened its doors for the first time. It’s located next to GIII Bar and offers a different option for the customers on camp. Chequers Deli offers a ‘Greggs’ style service. Fresh pastries, pasties and savouries on a ‘grab and go’ basis, alongside high quality freshly ground coffee – the perfect place to grab a quick bite to eat and drink! Finally, a big thank you for everyones hard work, making the re-launch a triumphant success! We look forward to the next great event and promotions that Bernadette and her team can come up with to drive the business forward – all in all exciting times at Blandford Camp!!

Promotional literature from the relaunch

The day was a big hit and everyone who attended got a free game of child’s bowling– so they can come back and have more fun soon!!

One of the key aims as contractor at 43 Wessex is to provide an excellent service across the whole CRL range. Working together in partnership with the client we aim to fulfil their wants and needs to the best of our abilities. One of the areas we identified as a priority was the leisure and catering facilities - in particular the onsite bowling alley and sports bar. The decision was made to re-launch The Denbury Bowl. As an added bonus, we launched a new brand to add to our already impressive portfolio – Chequers Deli.

The brand pivots on offering a classical bakery experience with world renowned pasties, pies and pastry’s freshly cooked on the premises, combined with a traditional deli offering bespoke Baguette’s, sandwiches, Panini’s and cakes.

Introducting Blandford’s new Site Manager - Bernadette Cooper I have recently joined Avenance as a new site manager at Blandford Garrison where there has been huge efforts to get the facilities used and the business thriving. For the relaunch of the Denbury Bowl we put on a Family Funday - which was a huge success! It was good to see the families taking part on the camp we aren’t just here for the soldiers anymore everyone that lives and works on camp are now our customers and the support and fun we all had on that day proves it. We also had some great entertainment for the grown ups in the form of a fantastic girl band Charleeze Angels - the girls went down a storm!! I must say, Gaynor Duncan and her team are just fantastic. I have never seen such enthusiasm. Its great to come into a new job and have these guys supporting me. It can only go from strength to strength. I am so pleased!!
