Programs offered strive to foster new skills, promote health and well-being, and expand cultural and artistic development. In order to provide these programs, the City of Elko Parks & Recreation Department seeks experienced individuals to work as contracted instructors to share their special talents, skills or knowledge with others in a class, camp or workshop format. Park & Recreation Advisory Board Regular meetings of the City of Elko Parks & Recreation Advisory Board are conducted on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. (Place TBA). No News Is Good News You will only be notified if the class/activity is full or canceled. You will not receive a confirmation letter or call.

Refunds Refunds are given if programs are canceled or if registration fails because the activity is full or weather conditions force us to cancel. Refunds cannot be guaranteed after the program has begun. Requests must be made at least five (5) business days before a program/class is scheduled to begin. A $10.00 service fee will be charged for ALL refund requests. Refunds will not be given after program has begun.

Weather Policy Every attempt will be made to inform participants of program cancellations due to inclement weather. When weather is a factor, parents or participants may call the Parks and Recreation Department at 775-777-7260.

Shining Star Scholarship Program Youth Scholarship Campaign Brighten up a child’s life by donating to our scholarship fund! Large or small, your sponsorship will help contribute to a child’s participation in our recreation programs that otherwise may not be able to do so. Pick up a star at the Recreation Office or fill out and return form below and pledge your donation today! adult programs City of Elko, “Fools 30 Triathlon” This unique triathlon allows participants to use the 30 days in the month of April to complete a full triathlon. A series of the Lazy Man Triathlon, the April, “Fools 30,” shortens distances from the Iron Man distances for this spring introduction to the series. Distances include: 1500 meter swim, 50 mile bike & 13 mile run. Presented by the Elko Swimming Pool and Recreation Department. youth programs City of Elko Latchkey Program (Fun Factory) The City of Elko Recreation Department provides a before and after school Latchkey program and a full day summer program for k-6th grades in the Elko Community. The before school program is held from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and the after school program is held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday (open early out times) . We provide this program to all Elko schools with transportation to and from the other schools. This program includes snacks and juice, arts and crafts, homework assistance, tutoring, drug awareness curriculum, and organized activities. During the year we periodically have special presentations by various professions such as the Elko Police Department to promote awareness programs such as “Stranger Danger”, “K-9” unit, and drug and alcohol abuse dangers; The Elko Fire Department instructs on home fire safety and needs; and other professionals within the community. Lego® Creations Contest The Elko County Library invites children and adults to show their creative side by entering our 4th Annual LEGO® Creations Contest. The Library will accept entries Monday, January 13 through Wednesday, January 22. The public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite creation from Thursday, January 23 through Thursday, January 30. The Library will announce the winner Friday, January 31. The LEGO® Creations will be placed in one of five categories: (1) Family or Team; (2) Individual – Preschool through 1st grade; (3) Individual – 2nd through 4th grades; (4) Individual – 5th through 7th grades; and (5) Individual – 8th grade through adult. youth programs Flash Light Egg Hunt Bring your own flashlight and we will provide the eggs and prizes. Line up for the hunt will begin at 8pm sharp with the kickoff starting at 8:15pm. The hunt will continue until all eggs are found. Eggs will contain an assortment of prizes with one grand prize egg. Participants must be in Jr. High, Middle or High school. Spring EGGstravaganza Kids, grab your Easter Baskets and hop on down to The Elko County Library, for the annual Spring EGGstravaganza. Children will have the opportunity to visit with the Easter Bunny, and participate in a number of Easter games such as Bunny Ring Toss, Spring Hopscotch, Easter Egg Golf, and a Fishing Pond. At each game the children will receive a small prize or an Easter Egg filled with goodies. Where: Elko County Library (720 Court St.)

youth programs Jr. Ski Program Our program consists of five 1/2 day clinics for the 6-16 age group. Offered on Saturdays, each clinic consists of a beginning class (never, ever, ever skied) and a novice class (has skied/taken lessons before). Sessions are directed by certified instructors and coaches. The SnoBowl ElkoKids Ski Program specializes in making learning to ski a fun and safe experience. Our experienced instructors will help your children develop the skills required to enjoy a lifetime of winter fun on the slopes. From the time they arrive at the SnoBowl, your children will enjoy supervised activities emphasizing learning in a fun environment. Included is an all mountain lift ticket, skis, boots and lessons. Slush Puppies - Never-Ever-Ever... You have never put on skies before Sno Hounds - Novice...Having previous skiing experience, able to control and turn skis in a wedge position and are able to stop. Who: Ages 6 -16
