Social Distancing Waiting Room Chairs

 As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, establishments where patrons are required to wait are having to facilitate social distancing to help keep staff and visitors safe. In waiting rooms with loose chairs this is a relatively simple task as chairs can be spaced further apart and some chairs removed if necessary, but where rows of fixed seating are present, there is a reliance on signage and the compliance of visitors to prevent people sitting too close to each other.  Whilst many people are taking social distancing very seriously, unfortunately there are also many who have a blasé attitude and fail to maintain an acceptable distance from others. In public spaces this can make people feel vulnerable and threatened and potentially cause confrontation.  In healthcare establishments in particular, patrons can already be anxious due to the nature of their visit, when you add the concern about social distancing into the mix this only seeks to worsen the situation.

Social Distancing Seat Wraps for Waiting Room Chairs  In response to the demand for social distancing solutions, there are now several options available to organisations with waiting rooms. Where seating is fixed and cannot be moved around, signage is key to ensure designated seats are kept out of use. However, affixing a notice to waiting room chairs is not always sufficient to prevent patrons from sitting on them.  This is where products like Social Distancing Seat Wraps go beyond a simple sign as they wrap neatly around the entire chair, preventing patrons from sitting down and clearly identifying it as out of use.  An alternative to Seat Wraps are Seat Blockers which sit on top of seat backs. Whilst these don’t stop patrons from being able to sit on the seats, they can act as a clear marker to warn against it.

Social Distancing Waiting Room Chairs ďƒ˜ Where new waiting rooms are being built or existing facilities refurbished, designers are looking for more permanent solutions to facilitate social distancing. Floor fixed beam seating has long been popular as an alternative to waiting room chairs in hospital environments and now this style of seating has been adapted to create individual floor fixed seats.

ďƒ˜ Whilst social distancing is still a requirement, waiting room chairs can be fixed at the necessary distance apart to ensure it is maintained. The floor fixing prevents patrons from being able to move seats closer together so organisations can be confident that patrons sat waiting are kept a suitable distance apart. In the future when COVID-19 hopefully becomes a thing of the past, additional seats can be installed to fill the gaps.
