RESTORED CINEMA SEATS HELP RECREATE VINTAGEÂ STYLE

There are many independent cinemas across the UK which still occupy venues that were purpose built in the original hey-day of cinema. These establishments are often blessed with traditional features which owners now want to capitalise on to create a stylish entertainment venue reminiscent of times gone by but with all the hightech features of modern day cinema. One of the key aspects that survives in these historical buildings is often the seating which was built to last. However, although robust and hard-wearing and having seen audiences through decades worth of films, eventually it will need some attention. Whilst in the past traditional style seating may have been ripped out and replaced with new, owners and audiences now appreciate the vintage styling and historical value of these features.

Restored cinema seats can help breathe new life into a venue whilst harking back to a time when a night at the local picture palace was a more glamorous affair. Independent cinema owners now frequently look to companies who can restore and refurbish their auditorium seating rather than replace it. Not only does refurbishment allow them to retain the original look and style of their cinema seats, it often comes at a much cheaper price than a brand new seating installation. Often you will find that traditional cinema seats will have had some patch-up work done over the years whether that be reupholstery, repainting frames or the addition of a wooden board on seat backs or under seats. Many of these repairs may not have been done sympathetically and may have tried to cover some of the traditional elements which are now desirable.

The frames of auditorium seats have always been robust and hard-wearing and this is a key factor in why so many restored cinema seats still survive today. It’s possible to retain the original seat frames and seat boards whilst replacing sagging foams and threadbare upholstery. A lot of vintage seats have ornate metal castings which can break over time but replicas can be made of these which when painted look just like the originals. All of these elements combined can help transform old cinema seats back to their former glory. Unfortunately, there was a time when cinema fell out of favour and many venues closed down or were repurposed for other means of entertainment. This is when a lot of vintage seating was ripped out and why many present-day cinemas which now occupy these old buildings no longer have their original seats. Thankfully, for those wanting to inject some traditional glamour into their venues, restored cinema seats can be found for sale on auction sites. It’s also often possible to buy them in a more dilapidated condition at a much cheaper price and have them restored yourself. As well as the design, manufacture and installation of new cinema seats, Evertaut also provides a range of refurbishment services and can revive all types of traditional cinema seating to help venue owners recreate an authentic vintage style.
