BEHIND THE SCENES BY DALLAS CARTER The work of more than 30 sponsors and local businesses went into the planning, creation, and completion of the 2021 Evansville Living Idea Home in Victoria Estates. While many, like décor, windows, and hardware are in plain sight, some essential, and even critical, contributions were made subtly behind the scenes. One of the largest sponsors in the project, CenterPoint Energy helped save on the high costs of running electricity through the Idea Home with programs and rebates on energy-efficient home appliances, thermostats, pool equipment, lighting, insulation, heating and air systems, and water heaters. CenterPoint Energy’s rebates are available to nearly all residential homeowners as well. Several rooms in the home feature motion sensor on/off switches to conserve energy, while Illuminating Expressions utilized energy-efficient LED lights for all of its installations. A+Derr Heating and Air provided a high-efficiency heating and air system throughout the home, including a 96 percent energy efficient AFUE furnace as well as a 16 Seer air conditioner. While these systems are felt, they are not seen or heard and can be managed using the six thermostats throughout the home with Bluetooth capabilities. Plumbing needs in the home’s five bathrooms and other spaces were met by Altstadt Hoffman Plumbing. A tankless water heater, hot water recirculation, and water softener also impact the energy-consumption of the home and fall under CenterPoint’s energy efficiency programs. L&W Supply provided insulation, while McMahon Exterminating and Dirt Finder Maid Service signed onto the project for pest control and cleaning services, respectively. IH
