Fake money scam TWO tourists have been arrested on the Magaluf Strip, Punta Ballena, for trying to pay for their drinks with fake money in a bar. The two Irish men, both 18 years old, were arrested by the Calvia Local Police for trying to pay for drinks using fake tender. The boys claim that they found the fake money on the floor in the early hours of Wednesday morning when they were heavily under the influence of alcohol and decided to try and use it. The fake notes were intended for colour copies of notes with a stamp stating they were not for legal tender and were for use in a local bar that use the bills as a type of Monopoly money. When the boys tried to pay for their drinks with the notes, a waitress alerted the manager who, in turn, called the police. Originally the police arrested the boys for alleged counterfeiting due to the amount of bills they had but after a search of their hotel room nothing was found. On Thursday morning, the boys were brought before a court and the magistrate charged them with a misdemeanour of fraud and they were released.
