DOOMED RESCUE: It was impossible for the man to be saved from the water.

Guardia Civil retrieves corpse A DEAD man’s body has been pulled out of the sea off the Orihuela Costa, by the Guardia Civil’s Maritime Service. Emergency services were alerted when a passer-by in the Cala la Mosca spotted the corpse and raised the alarm. First to the scene was the fire service who on arrival

realised that the body was trapped between the rocks at the bottom of a steep cliff. It was soon apparent that it would not be a rescue mission, but the specialist GEAS service of the Guardia Civil was called to assist in the recovery effort. The deceased, believed to be a middle-aged man dressed only in his trousers,

was taken to the Cabo Roig port before being transferred for forensic tests. At this stage the amount of evidence collected and the background to the man’s demise remains unclear. The police investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to get in touch with the authorities.
