DANGEROUS DEFECT: The affected area remains cordoned off. By John Smith A HUGE window pane weighing about 200 kilos fell out of the Tourism Development Centre in Motril which cost €14 million of European Union money to build according to a report issued by the town hall. The deputy mayor Francisco Sánchez-Cantalejo and councillor Gloria Chica

viewed the site on Friday November 25 and were horrified at what had happened and questioned whether this was caused by poor construction. In the meantime, officers from the Motril Fire Brigade made a preliminary review of the building checking for other potential defects but have concluded that it is safe although the area where the

problem arose has been cordoned off and they await the arrival of experts from the construction company to give an explanation of the cause of the problem. It has been decided that the cinema and children’s areas are safe and that visitors may continue to enter the building and use its facilities provided that they keep away from the cordoned off area.
