Who takes care of the caretaker? ALICANTE CITY HALL has been accused of cutting back on municipal workers’ rights. The Department of Education is doing away with accommodation for live-in caretakers at city schools, complained the SEP-CV union. Regulations stipulate that security and maintenance at state schools should be carried out by municipal employees. At schools where housing is available, the caretaker is obliged to live onsite, the union claimed. City Hall is deliberately cutting down on this type of accommodation to save money, it continued. The time has come to eliminate the practice, the Department of Education replied. “With existing surveillance devices, schools no longer need a caretaker 24 hours a day,” said Education Councillor Antonio Ardid.
The man was correctly equipped, sources revealed later, and investigators are now probing the cause of death. It is believed that the victim lost consciousness for reasons that are still unexplained, the same sources said.
