Mediation is the way forward THE first school for Professional Mediation has now opened in Alicante. It was founded by lawyer Maria Jesus Fernandez. She has studied and worked in social work, family mediation and civil and commercial law in Alicante for the last 12 years. “Mediation is a vital tool in today’s society and promotes a cultural change of peace to resolve conflict outside of court, freeing up the court system,” the lawyer said. “People can avoid going to trial and mediation can resolve 80 per cent of cases,” she added. The mediation courses include 230 hours of training. They follow guidelines according to the University Rey Juan Carlos of Madrid.
