Cannonball Run reaches Almeria By Tony Matthews IF you are interested in cars (classic, racing or sporty) then don’t miss the annual Cannonball2000 Run which is now under way and will run through Almeria in the next few days. The 2013 ‘run’ featuring 40 cars of all shapes and sizes, started at London’s Canary Wharf on Monday. It passed through Amsterdam on Tuesday and Geneva on Wednesday and will visit Cannes today (Thursday). Tomorrow (Friday), the drivers continue down to Valencia before heading south via Alicante, Murcia and Almeria to Marbella, arriving there on Saturday where they will

One of the main drivers in the ‘run’ is Englishman Mark Moore, who was born in Quinton, Birmingham and now lives in Kinver near Stourbridge. With his chief navigator Paul Groves
(his work colleague), Mark will be seated in a Mercedes C63 AMG Automatic with a 6.2 litre, 457 bhp engine (see photograph). An established racing campaigner, having competed in sprint and hill climbs, Mark, a former grass track champion, has driven around several Formula 1 circuits.
SWING SOLUTION will be presenting a jazz concert with a tribute to swing at the Santa Ana Castle in Roquetas de Mar tonight (Thursday) at 10pm.

Fishy tales are circulating in local towns A CAMPAIGN to promote the consumption of fresh fish and raise awareness to prevent the sale of immature fish has been passing along the Almeria coast. Hundreds of adults and children have passed through
the tent set up by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment which is using the slogan ‘Fresh fish. Our fish. Consume it.’ The campaign is highlighting the freshness and quality as the
main competitive advantages of the fish that is caught along the Andalucian coast. The campaign will visit Villaricos today (Thursday) and the seafront esplanade in San Juan de los Terreros tomorrow.
