Every year on January 26, India celebrates Republic Day with full fervor and great enthusiasm and the peak of this day is, for me, the parade. I had never understood the meaning of Republic day in the past but now that I have learnt the importance of this day, I know that it is much more than a simple parade, for this is the day when the Constitution of India came into effect. Our constitution is one of the longest ever constitutions that was written, and on this very day, in 1950, our country India was declared as a democracy, which was a cause for celebration. This is when the government started protecting our fundamental rights and gave us fundamental duties that we need to uphold as a citizen of our country. The Assembly met for approximately two years before the Constitution of India came into effect. I think it is one of the most significant festivals of India.
