EU4Environment in Moldova - one year of implementation! First results - greener decision making

On 11 September 2020, the meeting of the Inter-ministerial Working Group (WG) on the promotion of Sustainable Development and Green Economy – the National Implementation Committee (NIC) for EU4Environment in Moldova took place, which marked the first year of practical implementation of EU4Environment in the Republic of Moldova.

The WG/NIC approved the general information presented on the results of the implementation of EU4Environment in Moldova in the first year of implementation, endorsed the detailed plans for the actions of September – December 2020 and general plans for 2021. Being launched in the spring of 2019 at regional level and in Moldova, after mapping priorities and coordination of work plans, the practical implementation of EU4Environment in the country has actually started in September 2019. After all presentations and discussions, the members of the WG/NIC approved the general information presented on the results of the implementation of EU4Environment in Moldova during the first year of implementation, endorsed the detailed plans for the actions of September – December 2020 and general plans for 2021. Eco-labelling and eco-innovations for SMEs were approved as new priority domains for the policy documents in the field of green economy and investment needs assessment.

The main objectives of the Second WG/NIC meeting in 2020 were as follows: • Presenting information on the implementation of EU4Environment in Moldova in 2020 and further plans (with contribution from Implementing Partners); • Discussion and general approval of the priority domains for the update of the policy documents in the field of green economy, evaluation of costs and green investments needs and partner actions for 2021-2022 (ex.: eco-innovation for SMEs, ecolabelling etc.); • Organisation of the process of preparation for the Second Regional Assembly of the EU4Environment, 22 September 2020, virtual conference, with the participation of the State secretaries, EU4Environment NFPs; • Presentation of the preparations for the EU Green Week 2020, 19-23 October 2020, partner actions – 14.09 – 26.10.2020; • Ensure synergy with other projects/actions under implementation and informing development partners about the possibilities and needs within the implementation of the EU4 Environment in RM. The meeting of the Inter-ministerial Working Group on the promotion of Sustainable Development and Green Economy/ National Implementation Committee (NIC) for EU4Environment took place within EU4Environment, as part of the Result 1, Greener Decision Making, Output 1.1: Green economy ownership, policy coherence and cross-sectorial coordination boosted, implemented by the UN Environment Programme.
