75 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER Since the 2002-03 season the Lady Bucs are an astonishing 65-5 when the Lady Buccaneers hit the 75-point plateau, including 38-2 since 2006 … prior to the Lady Bucs’ 90-79 loss to Mercer, ETSU’s last loss when scoring at least 75 points came on Feb. 15, 2007, when Jacksonville downed the Lady Bucs, 83-79, inside Swisher Gym. KEEP PICKING THEIR POCKETS Through 30 contests this year the Lady Buccaneers have forced 12.2 steals per game, which ranks first in the A-Sun and eighth in the country … ETSU forced a team-best 21 picks at UNF last month … junior post Latisha Belcher – who thrives on improving her defense and forcing steals – leads the conference with 3.0 per game (89 total this season) and is two thefts away of setting a new single-season record as well. SEC MAGIC With the 59-50 victory over Kentucky back on Dec. 12, ETSU has now made it three wins in the last four years over a SEC foe … last season, the Lady Bucs knocked off Alabama in Tuscaloosa, 73-62, for their first road win of the season … in 2005-06, ETSU kicked off the season with a 78-53 romp over Mississippi State in Starkville. EVANS, BELCHER AND WILES EACH RECEIVE A-SUN WEEKLY HONORS Siarre Evans (twice), Latisha Belcher and TaRonda Wiles have each received Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors this season … Evans received hers on Dec. 22 after finishing with 19 points and 16 rebounds in the 79-78 win at Kennesaw State, and again, on Monday, March 2 after averaging an astonishing 25.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.0 steals … Belcher was tabbed POTW on Jan. 12 after she averaged 18 points and 7.0 rebounds, while connecting on 72.7 percent of her shots in the wins at FGCU and Stetson … Wiles received the honor one week later (Jan. 19) after pouring in a career high 31 points vs. Belmont and averaging 20.7 points per game in the three games against Liberty, Belmont and Lipscomb. CALLING ALL SENIORS? The 2008-09 ETSU roster consists of four juniors, five sophomores and three freshmen, however, the Lady Bucs do not have a single senior on their team … the Lady Bucs are one of two team in the Atlantic Sun to not post at least one senior on their roster, with the other team being Florida Gulf Coast. SIARRE’S SOARING For the second straight year Siarre Evans was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team. In her first two years, the Griffin, Ga. native has also received First Team All-conference honors and has positioned herself as one of the top players in the league. The junior guard has played in 94 games (starting 91) since arriving on campus, and is averaging 14.0 points and 8.2 rebounds in her career. Evans also has an outside shot of becoming only the third player in Lady Buccaneer history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, as she has scored 1,315 points and is 227 rebounds short of eclipsing the 1,000 rebound mark. THE SCHEDULE OF ALL SCHEDULES When fans look back at ETSU’s 2008-09 regular season slate they may be asking themselves what coach Kemp was thinking, as the Lady Bucs’ schedule featured seven teams who appeared in postseason play a year ago … ETSU began the year on the road at Evansville (WNIT participant) and Chattanooga (NCAA participant) and the Lady Bucs hosted then 12th-ranked and SEC favorite Vanderbilt in its home opener on Nov. 21 ... in addition, ETSU travelled to Georgia (NCAA participant) on Dec. 1, and made a stop to Kentucky (WNIT participant) on Dec. 12 … the Lady Bucs also travelled to FGCU – who represented the A-Sun in the 2008 postseason WNIT – and went to Liberty (NCAA participant) … of the Lady Bucs’ eight non-conference opponents, six of them played in the postseason last year. WHAT’S AT STAKE The winner of the Bowling Green pod will travel to Berkley, Calif. and play in the Sweet 16 … those games will be played March 28 inside Cal’s Haas Pavilion.
