e have made lots of progress over the years, putting a much-deser ved focus on eastern Tamarac, and listening to the needs of our residents
Anyone who drives by the Shaker Village Communit y in eastern Tamarac can see an abandoned clubhouse in disrepair. It is an eyesore that disrupts communit y pride. An independent Eastside Park Feasibilit y Study was conduc ted in 2017, to address the disparit y in the inequitable distribution of Cit y ser vices between the east and the west sides of town . The study concluded that the eastside of Tamarac severely lacks resources and facilities , and that residents of east Tamarac , Distric t 1 , were underser ved
The study also identified several ways the Cit y could enhance resources and facilities for the eastside of Tamarac . One of the recommendations included acquiring the clubhouse at Shaker Village and transforming it into a state - of-the -ar t communit y center for all of the Cit y ’s residents
The Cit y Commission , by a majorit y vote, agreed to acquire the proper t y at Shaker Village. Once
the Cit y acquires the proper t y, it will be available for use by the public .
Subjec t to an agreeable shared use agree ment, the dilapidated building will be gone, communit y pride restored , an improved Commercial Boulevard will emerge and a public facilit y will be built to benefit you
More major projec ts are slated for Distric t 1
Almost complete are the barrier walls along Prospec t Road , improvements to the Prospec t Road corridor and C aporella Park . I am also pleased to announce that the Sabal Palm Park , in Central Parc projec t, and the repaving of the streets in Mainlands 1 -5 will star t soon .
See You Soon ,

THE KINDNESS PROJ EC T
The Kindness Project is a community initiative that brought people of all ages together to spread positivity, kindness and mindfulness. The project is displayed at the Tamarac Community Center and is a testament to Broward County’s dedication to promoting these values through its grant program Despite past challenges, people have come together to support and uplift one another. The Kindness Project embodies this message. It calls for all of us to continue to embody these values and make a difference in the world around us. Every positive action we take, whether it’s a small act of kindness or a grand gesture, has the potential to create a ripple effect of goodness. The Kindness Project is a beautiful reminder that we can all positively impact the world.
Tamarac resident Susan S. Buzzi supports this initiative and uses expressive therapies such as
visual art and literary techniques for children with disabilities. She is also a victim advocate for trafficked individuals and juveniles in the tri-county area. Susan’s next exhibition is a photo documentary titled, “This is How I Feel,” which examines domestic violence and abuse and the recent alarming statistics surrounding men and women in intimate relationships
The Kindness Project was held May 11. The exhibition occurred May 27 Let’s continue to spread kindness, compassion, and mindfulness wherever we go and inspire others to do the same. Tamarac, together, we can create a brighter, more loving world for ourselves and future generations especially, in our own backyard

Drivers, remember to keep your guard up and stay aware by keeping a keen eye out for school zones, monitoring your speed and eliminating distractions like cell phones. Don’t forget, those flashing red lights and the stop sign-arm indicate when school buses are ready to pick-up or drop-off children. Remind your children to cross in front of the bus after exiting, as recommended by Broward Sheriff ’s Office.
Sticking to the assigned spots during drop - off s and pick-ups keeps traffic flowing smoothly. BSO also recommends that bus-bound youngsters wait curbside and stand 6 to 9 feet away from the road
There is no room for compromise when it comes to school bus safety for Tamarac’s most precious cargo.

COOKING SAFETY STARTS WITH YOU
Oc tober is Fire Prevention Month , a time dedicated to raising awareness about fire safet y and educating the public about how to prepare for and prevent emergencies .
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recognizes Oct. 8 – 14 as Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme, “Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention,” aims to educate the public about emergencies and essential steps to help reduce the risk of fire when cooking at home. It also emphasizes ways to keep yourself and those around you safer
N FPA repor ts that cooking is the primar y cause of home fires and home fire injuries , with 49% involving cooking equipment. Data also indicates that cooking was the sole major fire cause that resulted in more fires and fire deaths during 2014201 8 , com pared to 19 8 0 -19 8 4 .
Below are three safety tips to follow when cooking:
• Keep a close eye on what you’re cooking. Set timers for foods with longer cooking, simmering or baking times
• Remove combustible items and keep any thing that can burn , such as dish towels , oven mitts , food packaging and paper towels from the cooking area
• Turn pot handles away from the stove’s front. Keep a pot lid nearby while cooking. If a small grease fire ignites, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner promptly to smother the flames.
