Esther Yip Kai En

I am a third-year student at Temasek Polytechnic (TP) pursuing a Diploma in Interior Architecture and Design. In the course of my studies, I learnt how to use different digital drawing and 3d modelling softwares such as Photoshop, CAD, 3D Max and Revit. I am most confident in my ability to present and sell design ideas coherently. One of my major projects in year 1 which collaborated withSCAPEinvolveddetailedplanninganddevelopmentofdesign concepts and functions; I achieved a distinction grade and had theopportunitytopresentmyworktotheclient.

In secondary school, I displayed leadership qualities such as responsibility and effective communication skills to lead a group of student leaders towards a common goal in Secondary One Orientation2020.Apartfromacademicpursuits,mylifeasaballet dancer has honed my confidence and determination to learn and seekperfection.

Dementia is not a specific disease, but a syndrome that results in the deterioration of cognitive function beyond normal biological ageing. It affects memory, orientation, calculation, language, comprehension, judgment, reasoning, andlearning, graduallyleading toimpairedabilitytoperformdailyactivities

Many nursing homes including Apex Harmony Lounge have interiors like a hospital which adds a dull connotation to the overall ambience of the home. As people with dementia develop depressive symptoms such as loneliness, dread, feelings of incompetency, and insecurity, it is crucial to evoke a sense of security and warmth in their environment In addition, putting together elements of the environment, the senses and the arts can be transformative in the spaces they interact in, having the potential to create joy, beauty and meaning. Wonderland suggests a sense of rediscovery and imagination, bringing residents andstaffthroughawhimsicalandfantasy-likekindofadventure.

CONCEPT: WONDERLAND

Nature

Scale

Wonderland naturally implies nature, by introducing voids into the space, the integration of greenery and natural ventilation into the space is allowed.

When nature is already so big, it is even bigger in a wonderland For example, mushroomhousesandleafumbrellas.

ALICE 07 INTEGRATED STUDIO PROJECT 3

The idea of functional stairs came about as there was a lack of proper office spaces for staff, while improving connection and interaction between residents by giving them opportunities to wander betweenfloors.

EXPLORATION

The repetition of 2cm by 2cm cubes creates an enveloping structure which allows for spaces for different forms of interaction like sitting, standing, lying down, climbingstairs, etc.

The colourful prism gives a livelier ambience to the space where users can rest and play under the warm and vibrant sunlight while protected under the brutalist-styledome.
