adies put your bright lipsticks away as eyes are the focus for autumn/winter 2014. From bold strong liners and smokey metallic shadows applied at Dior and Donna Karen to extra-long false lashes at Gucci, makeup artists turned their attention to eye makeup when creating this season’s beauty looks. The autumn/winter 2014 collection consisted of a warm wintery palette with hues and pops of green, purple, orange and blue. As usual the timeless natural look remained popular, but with more sculpting and definition for a perfected take on the bare-faced look. When re-creating this season’s looks, I use the versatile makeup range from a new brand called Provoc. The range consists of lip liners, eye liners and lashes and the most amazing part… the makeup is semi permanent! Lasting until you remove with an oil based remover. We have the range available for you to purchase at Finesse Hair & Beauty.

LIGHT AND SHADE

Highlighters and an abundance of taupe eye shadows are present in every makeup artist’s kit this season. Contouring and illuminating were used to emphasise the face for a flawless take on the natural look and gave a youthful look. Oils and serums were applied to the skin before foundation at Valentino to give that illuminating glow, whilst brows were neatly groomed. A sculpted, almost mannequin-like look was displayed at Givenchy and Marc Jacobs. Teamed with flawless skin were minimal nude look lips.

t COLOUR FLASH

Did you think 80’s blue eye makeup was a thing of the past? It turns out its back in shades of sapphire, azure, cerulean and cobalt. It was joined by purple at Burberry Prorsum, Chloé and Diane von Furstenberg, and khaki at Derek Lam. It’s certainly not a season to be afraid of colour! And, while we’re on the topic of colour, Chanel created a rainbow of eyeliner flicks with fuchsia, lime, teal and orange. It’s all about pushing limits with colour. You can easily create this look on yourself with the Provoc eyeliners. Prep your lids with foundation and then powder to matt and simply apply the liner in a straight line for a sharp cat eye look or you have a few seconds to blend the line for a more softer look and then viola…there is no budging or smudging!

tTHE LASH EFFECT

Particular attention was paid to the eyelashes on the catwalk. Extra-long false lashes gave models a dolllike prettiness at Versace, Rochas and Gucci, whilst clumpy, clogged mascara was used at Prada. Falsies may have been around forever, but makeup artists went crazy with them this year! At Gucci, a row of false lashes was applied to both the upper and lower lash lines.

t PRECIOUS METALS

Although lips were not the focus point on catwalks this season, metallics certainly were! Bronze hues were used on the lips at Rodarte. Gold liner at Badgley Mischka, silver shadow at Donna Karan and glittery eyelids at Altuzarra - metallic makeup was everywhere, particularly at the New York shows. Punky and a little futuristic, we too can take inspiration from this trend, as well as bold colours, there is an array of metallic colours within the Provoc range for you to experiment with. Try a dash of metallic in the corners of the eye for a subtle but striking look.
