STUDENTS COOK UP TASTY DISHES FOR YOUNG CHEF COMPETITION

Eighteen students at Roding Valley High School, Loughton, recently took part in the Rotary International Young Chef competition. Each had 90 minutes to prepare a main dish for two people. Technology technician Heidi Collings said: “We had a fantastic turnout and as always the food was amazing. Each student showed great skill in the dishes that they served.” This year the school’s judges were head of art Dave Tisdale, English teacher Shannon McEvoy Georgia Maginn and learning support assistant Grace Cutts. After sampling each of the dishes the judges decided on joint winners – Year 8 student Georgia Maginn, who cooked chicken and chorizo with chilli, feta and rice, and Year 10 student Miles Ahmed who prepared pan fried cod with stuffed peppers. Runner-up was Adam Ahmed who served chicken stuffed with spinach wrapped in bacon and served with carrots and sauce. Vikki Michelle, Waltham Abbey Marriott general manager Ross Paton and Avril Mills
