The perfect esports venue doesn’t exist?
Esports and gaming venues, large and small, focused on catering to different demands of the market and audience, have opened and/or been announced in recent years from Vegas to Warwick, and Sunderland to São Paulo. From day to day gaming cafes, to bootcamp facilities with accommodations, and venues to host the best, biggest and brightest tournaments across titles, not to mention team HQs, and spaces for educational institutions there are a number of use cases in this growing sector. We’ve seen Fortress in Melbourne, Esports Stadium Arlington, and the HyperX Arena in Vegas, whilst Team Liquid’s announcement of a new 13-story, 3,000 sq foot HQ in Brazil. More locally we’ve SideQuest, Platform, New Meta, HOST and more, whilst the Dundee venue is set to open its doors in 2024. What goes into the consideration phase for these, and what’s needed to ensure they are commercially viable long term? How can they best serve and be accessible to the local communities in which they’re opened? Moreover, the big question; what does the perfect esports arena venue look like and what would and should it include?

Who’s coaching the coaches?
From amateur to going pro, the player journey in esports has developed immensely in a short period of time. Gone, at least mostly, are the days of top tier players having to compete from their rooms with organisations now having facilities for training, bootcamps and team development. These same organisations also focus on developing rising talent alongside current. This begs the question though, who’s coaching the coaches? Is this development and professionalisation also apparent when it comes to esports coaching across the board? Generally speaking there remains a lack of standardisation and structure implemented when it comes to coaching practices. Esports coaching qualifications are starting to appear and structured, youth focused amateur academy programmes, but these qualifications are not seen as necessary in the esports industry - a far cry from traditional sports. Why not, what impact does this have and will it change?

Sim Racing - The Grand Plan
Sim racing has continued to grow year after year with the launch of new racing leagues such as ESL R1, increased brand partnerships and F1 teams such as Williams, Alpine and McLaren continuing to invest and build their esports offering. Even the new Gran Turismo film showcases the potential of drivers moving from the virtual to the real-life track. It may look great from the outside, but how is it really going? Sim racing is often hailed as a great example of democratisation of racing as a sport; do we have hard evidence of this in practice? What’s needed for it to take the next steps and what are the ultimate success stories? Moderator: Tobin Leigh - Founder & CEO - PACENOTE

Player compensation: The Great Correction?
Rockstar pro players on multi-million dollar salaries were once a mark of legitimacy for esports; proof we’d made it. But as the investments funding sky-high salaries dry up, it’s become clear player compensation is unsustainable. How high is too high for player salaries? Would a salary cap work? How much of prize pool winnings and skin sales should players get to keep? Perhaps most saliently, where does responsibility lie for change — with players, agents, teams, or a combination of the above? Relevant stakeholders will gather to discuss one of the most pressing dilemmas in the quest for sustainability in esports.

Checkpoint: Authentic marketing: Navigating the role of the creator As a creator, you are working to grow your community and brands and teams are looking to utilise your community to grow theirs. So how do all the stakeholders navigate this delicate process? This panel will approach this question from all angles.
If you are a publisher working with creators to market a game, how do you support your creators? As a team or a brand (following on from this morning’s panels), what are you doing to cater to your creator’s communities? And as the creator, how do you market yourself both to these brands and publishers, but also to viewers to keep your community growing? Bringing together experts from each perspective, this panel seeks to address these questions.

Bringing esports ecosystems to life
From selecting venues to crafting unique fan experiences and delivering top-tier productions, esports tournaments provide a catalyst for economic opportunities. Locations have become a cornerstone of success, as publishers and tournament organisers join forces to create footholds in thriving esports regions, while countries compete to host major events and become esports hubs. In the past year, we’ve witnessed tournaments in Paris, Riyadh, Tokyo, Copenhagen and London. But what really goes into bringing large-scale tournaments to life? Why are locations so integral to the growth of esports ecosystems? And how do stakeholders work together to elevate their offerings?

Away from the Louis Vuitton trophies in League of Legends and the sold out arenas year after year in Cologne for Counterstrike, there exists the weird and the wonderful, the new and the bold. The rich tapestry of esports isn’t limited to the top titles with the larger, dedicated global fanbases we hear about time and again, and of course, new games and would be competitive scenes emerge from both the publishers we know, and the challengers to the throne. This session puts some of these under the microscope, what are the realities of Geoguessr esports and the outcome of its first world cup? What does success look like for Farming Simulator esports? How does a more localised publisher and ecosystem ponder transferring this to a new region, or indeed launching a competitive title and esports scene from the ground up?
