About Air Station Borinquen Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen is located at Rafael Hernandez Airport on the Northwest tip of Puerto Rico. The closest city is Aguadilla, just 10 minutes to the South. The Air Station moved to this location from San Juan in the fall of 1971, at which time the Coast Guard took possession of an outstanding hangar with adjacent support facilities. The responsibility for the station complex, formerly part of Ramey Air Force Base and later Naval Station Roosevelt Roads West Annex, was assumed by the Coast Guard on 1 July 1976. Included in the boundaries of the base are the housing area, clinic and dispensary, station library, community center, swimming pool, exchange, mini-mart, package store, gymnasium and other fitness facilities, chapel, and theater. The primary mission of Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen is search and rescue. Secondary missions include: law enforcement, aerial support for ATON, and logistic support. To accomplish these missions, the Air Station has four MH-65 helicopters. The Air Station is under

the operational control of Commander, Coast Guard Sector San Juan (old GANTSEC), located in Old San Juan. The Sector San Juan area of responsability extends approximately 1.3 million square miles. Other Coast Guard units in Sector San Juan are: Aids to Navigation Team Puerto Rico, Base San Juan, LEDET One, MSD St. Thomas, MSO San Juan, Reserve Unit San Juan, RIO St. Croix, and multiple response units.

AIR STATION HISTORY: United States Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen is the direct descendant of Coast Guard Air Station San Juan, which was located on the Isla Grande Naval Air Station. In November 1971, the Air Station relocated to its present location at what was then Ramey Air Force Base in Aguadilla, and became known as Coast Guard Air Station Puerto Rico. Two years later the Air Force discontinued its operation at Ramey, turning the facilities over to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the United States Navy. The Coast Guard assumed the host role in July 1976, when the Navy vacated the station. It was then that the unit was —4—

designated Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen. The Air Station originally utilized three HU-16E Albatross seaplanes and two HH-52A Sea Guard helicopters to effect its search and rescue missions. In March of 1973, three HH-3F Pelican helicopters replaced these aircraft. The need for increased range for law enforcement and search and rescue resulted in the addition of four HU-25A Falcon Jets to the Air Station’s inventory in late 1983 and early 1984. In 1985, four new HH-65A Dolphin short-range rescue helicopters replaced the three HH-3F Pelicans, giving the Air Station a shipboard deployment capability. The HU-25A Falcons were replaced in 1987 by three HC-130 Hercules aircraft that provided long range search and surveillance capability until their departure in June 1996. Due to the increased tempo of operations in the Caribbean, the Air Station again added four HU-25A Falcons to the inventory from July 1999 until September 2001. The Air Station currently operates with MH-65 Dolphin helicopters while also supporting a variety of forward deployed aircraft.

MINNESOTA HEAD COACH

RICHARD PITINO Pitino came to Gold Country after spending one season at the helm of the Florida International University (FIU) basketball program. Prior to his arrival in South Florida, FIU had not had a winning season since 1999-2000 and in the three seasons before his hiring posted a combined record of 26-65.

Richard Pitino Head Coach Richard Pitino is in his second season as the 17th head coach of the University of Minnesota’s Golden Gopher men’s basketball. In year one, Pitino led the Gophers to their second National Invitation Tournament championship in program history, posting a school-record 25 wins in the process. Among those victories were three top-25 wins at home in Williams Arena, knocking off #9/8 Wisconsin, #11/9 Ohio State, and #20/19 Iowa. Those were part of the 20 home wins that the Gophers amassed during the season. Pitino’s first Gopher team finished with eight Big Ten victories, seventh in the conference, along with an opening-round win in the Big Ten Tournament. The 2014-15 squad featured two All-Big Ten honorable mention players in junior guards Andre Hollins and DeAndre Mathieu, the latter one of four newcomers that arrived on campus with Pitino.

In just one season, Pitino led the program to 18 wins, the fourth-most in program history, and its first appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game. FIU finished with 11 conference wins on the season, the most by a Panther team since joining the Sun Belt Conference. Prior to leading FIU, Pitino served as the Associate Head Coach for one season and an assistant for two other seasons under his father, Rick, at Louisville. In three years overall with the Cardinals, he helped the program to a combined 88-25 record, a pair of NCAA Elite Eight berths (2008 and 2009) and one NCAA Final Four appearance (2012). His efforts also helped the Cards land two of top 15 recruiting classes in his three years (2007-08 and 2008-09). Pitino also spent time as an assistant for two seasons under Billy Donovan at Florida. In his time with the Gators, the club was a combined 50-20 with back-to back NCAA Tournament appearances, including reaching the 2011 NCAA Southeast Regional finals before falling to NCAA runner-up Butler. A 2005 graduate of Providence College, Pitino and his wife Jill have two children, daughter Ava and son Jack. —8—

INNESOTA

SEASON OUTLOOK Coming off a school-record 25-win season and the National Invitation Tournament championship, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are poised to continue the program’s upward trend. As they begin their second year under head coach Richard Pitino, the Gophers return four starters and eight letterwinners from the 2013-14 squad. The Gophers possess veteran leadership in the form of five seniors, headlined by the backcourt duo of Andre Hollins and DeAndre Mathieu. Both named All-Big Ten honorable mention last season, Hollins (13.6 ppg) was the team’s top scorer a year ago, while Mathieu (12.0 ppg, 4.2 apg) broke out in his first season with the Maroon and Gold and is the top returning assist leader in the Big Ten Conference. The senior depth continues in the frontcourt in Elliott Eliason, who averaged a team-best

6.6 rebounds (B1G: 6th) and 1.9 blocks per game (B1G: 3rd), along with Maurice Walker, who emerged towards the end of the season and averaged 7.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per outing. Rounding out the senior class is reserve walk-on guard Kendal Shell. The two-man junior class is led by forward Joey King, an Eagan, Minn., native who made an impact in numerous games last year after transferring from Drake, averaging 7.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Junior college transfer Carlos Morris (Apalachicola, Fla./ Chipola College) joins the team this season and is expected to contribute heavily with two years of eligibility remaining. Another junior, St. Paul native Zach Lofton, will sit out the season after transferring from Illinois State and join the Gophers on the court next season. —9—

A promising sophomore class of two, Charles Buggs and Daquein McNeil, will be counted on to provide depth off the bench to start the season. The duo appeared in 16 and 30 games, respectively, last season as they debuted with the Gophers. Three freshmen will compete for time this season, in guard Nate Mason (Decatur, Ga./Arlington Country Day), forward Josh Martin (Bothell, Wash./Bothell), and center Bakary Konate (Bamako, Mali/Sunrise Christian Academy). The Gophers, who lost four letterwinners to graduation including second-leading scorer Austin Hollins, will be tested right away in the Armed Forces Classic on college basketball’s opening night. Traveling to Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen in Puerto Rico, Minnesota will square off against Louisville to begin the season. The non-conference schedule is highlighted by a return trip to Madison Square Garden for the NIT Season Tip-Off, along with a date at Wake Forest in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, while hosting nine opponents at Williams Arena before Big Ten play begins on New Year’s Eve.

LOUISVILLE HEAD COACH

RICK PITINO Rick Pitino, one of the most brilliant minds in coaching, began a new era in University of Louisville men’s basketball when he was named head coach of the Cardinals on March 21, 2001.

Rick Pitino Louisville Head Coach

In 29 seasons as a collegiate head coach at five different schools, Pitino has compiled a 695-245 record, a .739 winning percentage that ranks him 11th among active coaches. He has a 341-117 record in 13 seasons at UofL, the third winningest coach in Cardinal history. UofL is among the nations’ top 15 programs in winning percentage over the last decade under his guidance. His current contract ties him with UofL through the 2021-2022 season. The first coach in NCAA history to take three different teams to the NCAA Final Four, Pitino was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013, lofty recognition for a lifetime of impressive basketball achievement. The Cardinals enter the season with a nation-leading 96 victories over the last three years and UofL is the only school in the nation with 30 wins in each of the last three years. Pitino guided the Cardinals to the 2013 NCAA Championship after claiming the nation’s top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and winning the BIG EAST Conference regular season co-championship and tournament titles. The Cardinals won a school-record 35 games while claiming their first NCAA title in 27 years. UofL reached its second straight and 10th Final Four, marking Pitino’s seventh, a total reached by only five coaches all-time. A 2006 inductee to the New York City Hall of Fame, Pitino has the second-highest winning percentage in NCAA Tournament games among active coaches, winning 75 percent of his games in the post-season event with a 50-17 record in 19 tournament appearances. Pitino is one of only two coaches (along with North Carolina’s Roy Williams) in NCAA history to have led two different schools to at least three Final Fours each. The first coach in NCAA history to win a national championship at two different schools. He is one of only four coaches (also Jim Boeheim, Mike Krzyzewski and Dean Smith) ever to guide a school to the Final Four in four separate decades. Pitino is one of a — 12 —

select group of eight coaches who have taken teams from four different schools to the NCAA Tournament. He is one of five coaches all-time who have reached the Final Four on at least seven occasions. He guided Kentucky to three NCAA Final Four appearances in his last five years at Kentucky, winning the 1996 NCAA Championship and reaching the national title game in 1997. In eight seasons with the Wildcats, he amassed a 219-50 record (.814) while winning two league crowns and an impressive 17-1 record in the Southeastern Conference Tournament. Pitino, 62, got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at Hawai’i in 1974 and served as a full-time assistant there in 1975-76 when he was the head coach for the last six games of the season (2-4) when the head coach was relieved of his duties. He served two seasons as an assistant at Syracuse under Jim Boeheim from 1976-78. Pitino was only 25 years old when he accepted his first head coaching job at Boston University in 1978. He produced a 91-51 record in five years there, departing as the most successful coach in BU history. In his final season there, he guided the Terriers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 24 years. Pitino left Boston U. to become an assistant coach for the New York Knicks from 1983-85, where he worked with head coach Hubie Brown. He was head coach at Providence College for two seasons (1985-87), producing a 42-23 record there. He guided the Friars to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 1986 and an improbable trip to the NCAA Final Four in 1987. He earned his degree in 1974 at Massachusetts, where he was a standout guard for the Minutemen’s basketball team. His 329 career assists rank eighth all-time at UMass and his 168 assists as a senior is the sixth-best single season total ever there. Pitino was a freshman during NBA legend Julius Erving’s senior year. Pitino and his wife Joanne have five children — Michael, Christopher, Richard, Ryan and Jacqueline — and six grandchildren — Anna, Audrey, Alex (Michael and wife Bethany’s children), Andrew, James (Christopher and wife Brucie’s children), and Ava (Richard and wife Jill’s child).

LOUISVILLE

SEASON OUTLOOK Over the last three years, the University of Louisville men’s basketball team has won more games than any team in the nation. A total of 96 victories. The only school in the nation with three straight 30 win seasons. Two Final Fours and the 2013 NCAA Championship. While departed 2014 consensus All-American guard Russ Smith’s playmaking skills and wing Luke Hancock’s hot hand may be missed at times, the 2014-15 Cardinals are not without their share of talent to continue that impressive run. With the return of preseason All-American forward Montrezl Harrell, an experienced backcourt, a top 10 recruiting class and Hall of Fame Coach Rick Pitino at the helm, Louisville has the ingredients for another successful season. Harrell will be counted on heavily to lead the young backcourt. The American Athletic Conference Most Improved Player and a first-team all-conference selection, he averaged 14.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and blocked 49 shots as a sophomore. He was sixth nationally in field goal percentage, connecting on 60.9 percent from the field, as UofL shared the American Athletic Conference title, won the league postseason tournament and reached the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16. Harrell produced 12 double-doubles during the 2013-14 season, including 11 in the final 22 games. Also returning to the frontcourt are sophomore Akoy Agau and redshirt sophomore Mangok Mathiang. Mathiang saw action in all 37 games last in season, starting 14. He finished the season averaging 3.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per

game. Agau saw action in 19 games, averaging 1.1 rebounds per game, but his numbers pale in comparison to the strides he has made in the off season. A talented group of newcomers will bolster the Cardinals frontcourt this season, not only in providing depth but in unprecedented height for a Louisville team as well. Freshmen Jalen Johnson and Chinanu Onuaku will all compete for time in the Louisville lineup, while it may take seven-footers Anas Mahmoud and Matz Stockman a little longer to develop. The Cardinals’ backcourt is the most experienced position with Jones, Rozier and Blackshear leading the way. Reserves Anton Gill, David Levitch and Dillon Avare along with freshmen Shaqquan Aaron, Quentin Snider and Trent Gilbert give Louisville a deep bench. They have the ability to cause match-up problems for other teams with their athletic ability and quickness. Blackshear has made the biggest improvements in the off season. He averaged 8.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and shot 39.5 percent from three-point range (45-of-114) last season. He had 14 double-digit scoring efforts last season, including a career-high 23 against Houston. Jones started 27 games for the Cardinals last year, averaging 10.2 points and 2.9 assists, second highest on the team. A member of the conference all-tournament team last year, he was among the top 3-point shooters on the team, connecting on 37.7 percent from behind the — 13 —

arc. Jones and his teammates have wreaked havoc on defense, upholding a standing that Louisville is the only team in the nation to rank among the top ten in the nation in steals each of the last three years. Rozier returns after an impressive freshman season. Rozier reached double digits in points seven times during conference action, averaging 8.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and shooting 40.7 percent from three-point range in league games. Louisville will begin a new chapter this season in the tradition rich Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cardinals will rely on their depth early in the season with a tough nonconference schedule along with the conference slate that includes such teams as Ohio State, Indiana, Minnesota and Kentucky. Nearly half of the Cardinals’ 31 games will be played against teams that participated in post-season competition last season, including 11 from the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

Mike Moser had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Ducks. PYEONGTAEK, South Korea -- Joseph Young had 24 points and five rebounds as No. 19 Oregon beat Georgetown 82-75 in a season opener played at a U.S. Army Camp Humphreys in South Korea. Young, who made all 12 of his free throw attempts, and Jason Calliste, who scored 16 points and made all 11 of his free throws, led Oregon to a win before hundreds of soldiers at Camp Humphreys, a U.S. Army base south of Seoul, the country’s capital. Georgetown center Joshua Smith scored 25 points but only had four rebounds for the Hoyas, who closed within four points with a minute left. But Georgetown missed key free throws in the closing minutes, while Oregon hit theirs.

Georgetown was outrebounded 40-32 and was just 1 of 15 from 3-point range. The Hoyas only led twice in the game -- with the opening basket and then briefly early in the second half. Markel Starks, a senior guard, helped keep Georgetown in the game, hitting the Hoyas’ only 3-pointer with 7:31 left and scoring 16 points. Oregon opened up an early lead in the first half off repeated turnovers and poor shooting by Georgetown, but the Hoyas closed within 37-34 at halftime. They were carried by forward Mikael Hopkins’ 10 points and Smith’s nine first-half points. For Oregon, Young had 11 points in the first half and Calliste had 12 at halftime. — 16 —

Oregon was listed as the “home” team, but both schools were far from home. The teams played in special camouflage uniforms -- light-colored camouflage for Oregon, dark for Georgetown, and coaches on both teams wore combat boots and military-style cargo pants. Instead of names on the back of their jerseys, Oregon had “USA”; Georgetown had words like “Integrity,” “Courage” and “Respect.” Both teams said that regardless of the outcome, the game was a unique experience.

Napier hit four free throws in the final 13 seconds to seal the win. Ryan Boatright had 13 points, despite rolling his ankle in the second half, and DeAndre Danielsadded 12 for the Huskies.

After the game, UConn players and Ollie ran and embraced Calhoun, the Hall of Famer who retired in September of that year. UConn led most of the way and by as many as 16 points in the first half of the game. Keith Appling scored 17 points and Branden Dawson had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Michigan State. Gary Harris scored to pull the Spartans to 62-60, but Denzel Valentine and Appling each missed a shot in the last minute that would have tied the game, forcing Michigan State to foul. — 17 —

A steal by Napier and a lob to Ryan Boatright made it 32-18 Huskies, who stretched that to 16. The Spartans closed the half on a 10-2 run, but trailed 40-33 at intermission. Boatright rolled his left ankle less that 3 minutes into the second half and was hobbled the rest of the game. The Huskies, who shot 46 percent while holding the Spartans to 40 percent, won despite being outrebounded 34-25. This was the first season that someone other than Calhoun has been the head coach since Dom Perno coached his final game in 1986. Three UConn players hail from Germany. Niels Giffey scored three points and Enosch Wolf had two. Leon Tolksdorf did not play.
