THE TECHNOLOGICAL EDUCATION INSTITUTE OF PIRAEUS

Τ.Ε.Ι. of Piraeus, established by a special law in 1976, merging the faculties of Anastasiadis founded in 1947 and Sivitanidios founded in 1957, is a Technological Education Institute maintaining a high standard of teaching supported by applied research in certain domains. Τ.Ε.Ι. of Piraeus maintains permanent links with other national and foreign educational and research institutions aiming at the constant improvement of the education provided. Moreover, Τ.Ε.Ι. of Piraeus participates in numerous programs of the European Union so as to encourage international cooperation and improve knowledge diffusion. The Technological Education Institute of Piraeus is one of the twelve independent and selfgoverned Τ.Ε.Ι. that along with universities, constitute the national system of higher education in Greece, according to Greek Laws 2916/2001 and 3549/2007. Τ.Ε.Ιs are distinguished from traditional universities in Greece due to their technological orientation. The degrees obtained, along with those of Greek universities, are the only higher education degrees offered by schools operating within Greece recognized by the Greek state and EU. TEI and university graduates can continue their studies at a postgraduate level, under the same terms. In Τ.Ε.Ι. of Piraeus there are more than 20 different degrees – awardingprograms, varying from arts and social sciences to applied sciences and engineering. Its current enrolment of students approaches 15.000 students while its regular and temporary teaching staff is approximately 1000. An administrative staff of around 250 people supports the Institution’s functions. The postgraduate programs of Τ.Ε.Ι. of Piraeus enjoy the administration’s special attention and along with the support of the staff from collaborating institutions, have been well accepted by the market. The institute is built in its own campus of approximately 100.000m2 in the middle of an olive grove that includes some of the very same olive trees that used to shade Plato’s Academy situated then, nearby. It is close to the famous port of Piraeus and within the metropolitan area of greater Athens. Regular bus service is provided by the metropolitan transportation system, connecting the institute directly to downtown Athens and Piraeus as well as to the rest of Attica. Regular bus service connects the institute to Egaleo METRO station 2km away.
