CHOICES OF COURSES

STANDARD OR INTENSIVE GENERAL COURSES

PRIVATE COURSES

Develop well-rounded skills by studying a structured language course over a number of months. These popular programmes offer you the chance to make rapid progress towards fluency, while enjoying total cultural immersion. You will progress upwards through multiple levels and gain a broad general and working vocabulary, enabling you to accurately discuss a wide range of topics with ease. With the ability to speak, listen, read and write in the language, you will have lifelong assets that will open the world to you, both personally and professionally.

If you have limited time and a clear objective, a private one-toone course will ensure rapid language progress in the minimum possible time. The course will be designed around the topics that matter to you and the teacher will adapt to your learning style. It’s an intense way to learn, and you’ll see fast results. It’s possible to combine group lessons with private classes. Private lessons may take place at the language school or in full immersion in your teacher’s home.

EXAM PREPARATION COURSES Employers, academic institutions and official authorities around the world use language certificates to make important decisions about you. Without a certificate, they have no proof of your level. If your application were compared to someone’s with a language certificate, who would you choose? The programmes are carefully designed and taught by experts who specialise in exam preparation and will help you reach your objective, with a special emphasis on the topics that are essential parts of the exam you’ll be preparing.

PLUS COURSES (SPORT, CULTURE, ETC.)

COURSES + INTERNSHIPS OR VOLUNTEER WORK After a general language course, students have the opportunity to consolidate their language skills during an unpaid internship. Internships are adapted to your level and field of interest. This combination is a great opportunity to discover the world of work in another country or get involved in local community projects.

COURSES FOR GROUPS

A business course enhances your language skills and your ability to express yourself and communicate in a professional context. Some people choose to combine a business course with a general language course.

Whether for a holiday camp, exam preparation or any other group language study project, we offer complete packages designed according to your objectives and priorities (course content, type of accommodation, activities and excursions, etc.). These packages are great value for money and include free accommodation for accompanying leaders/organisers.

PROFESSIONALS

COURSES FOR STUDENTS OVER 30

Courses for professionals are tailor-made to help you boost your progress and achieve specific goals in a short time. These programmes improve your language skills while providing a stimulating environment for developing soft skills. They offer a wide range of specialised courses. These courses base the topics of language study on a specific field (financial, medical, legal, industrial, commercial, telecommunications, etc.) and deal with the specifics of a certain activity such as technical vocabulary, industry-specific concepts, correspondence, etc.

Are you aged 30 or more, professionally active, and want to take make the most of your holiday or go on a training leave to refresh your language skills? Try our brand new courses especially for people in their thirties!

BUSINESS

A course made for you

ESL · A world of languages

Our PLUS courses offer the opportunity to balance language classes with the practice of a specific activity included in the programme. Thanks to our cultural extras, including gastronomy, music, dance, filmmaking, sustainable development and yoga, among others, you can combine language learning with an authentic cultural experience.

COURSES IN THE TEACHER’S HOME A new concept in international education, this is the way to make maximum progress in the shortest time possible, while being completely immersed in the language you’re learning. You’ll live and learn with your teacher, who will analyse your individual needs and tailor the course content to you. Studying a tailor-made course in complete immersion, you’ll make rapid progress without wasting any time on topics that aren’t relevant to you. Please contact us for a free language level assessment or a no-obligation price quote.

ADDITIONAL ONLINE LESSONS Some of our programmes include a range of innovative online learning tools available before, during and after your language course. Designed to complement your studies, they give you access to extra study materials, help you monitor your progress and let you stay in touch with the school community during your stay.

Free language level evaluation and needs analysis Not sure where your language skills are at? Don’t worry, as all of our partner schools offer an evaluation test on the first day or pre-arrival. They usually divide students into groups based on current ability with the target language, which is vital to help you feel at ease and ensure you make consistent progress. It’s also what will make the course effective and interesting. To best advise on how you can reach your objectives and tailor courses to your needs, ESL also offers this service during your consultancy interview.

Levels and progression As you progress with the language, new doors will open for you…and stay open. Of course, the personal benefits of studying abroad go far beyond communication, but your language abilities alone will give you a new world of opportunities. Add in the soft skills acquisition and life experience that come with the programme, and your future looks very bright indeed.

LEVELS

Usually following a long stay abroad, the student can understand virtually everything and masters the foreign language perfectly. Sometimes, his/her knowledge of the language is superior to that of a native speaker, with perhaps fewer idiomatic expressions.

At ESL, we select schools that are experts in preparing students for official language exams. Accommodation is a key aspect of any language course abroad. That’s why, when choosing our partner schools, we select institutions that can guarantee the same excellent standards for accommodation as they can for teaching. We take great pleasure in helping you find the type of accommodation that is most suitable for you.

HOST FAMILY By immersing yourself in the daily life of a local family, you’ll practice the language constantly and gain authentic insight into local culture and customs. Host families usually live fairly near the school (sometimes within walking distance but usually a short ride on public transport away) though in big cities they will be further away. Our partner schools are highly selective when choosing host families and monitor them via student feedback. Unless you request otherwise, you will generally not be accommodated with students who speak your mother tongue. Any other specific requirements or preferences you may have will be taken into account whenever possible, including things like special diet, preference for smoking/ non-smoking households, pets, children, etc. You must let us know if you have any allergies or medical conditions so we can inform the family in advance. It’s also useful if you let us know your interests and hobbies so we can take these into account when placing you with the most suitable host family.

STUDENT RESIDENCE Stay in a single or, more commonly, shared twin room with other students. This is a great way to enjoy your independence while meeting people from all over the world. You’ll usually share bathroom and kitchen facilities with other students; the exact level of comfort and facilities depends on the standards of the destination.

SHARED APARTMENT In a shared student apartment, you’ll be able to live with other students and/or locals. You’ll have a single room to yourself so you can enjoy some independence, while common areas like the kitchen and living room will be shared with your flatmates.

COURSES WITHOUT ACCOMMODATION Because your package will be tailor-made according to your individual needs and objectives, you can also book a course without accommodation. If you want to find longer-term accommodation with other students or locals, we would recommend booking some form of official accommodation for the first few weeks while you find your feet.

A home away from home!

COURSES IN THE TEACHER’S HOME Learn the language of your choice in your dream destination by living and studying right in your teacher’s home! If you like the idea of studying outside the conventional classroom setting, having plenty of opportunities to practise speaking and enjoying the comfort and flexibility of private lessons, this tailor-made programme is for you.

It’s no wonder this programme is so highly effective: the course takes place in total immersion in your teacher’s home and is custom designed around your specific needs. With a choice of 15, 20, 25 or 30 hours of classes per week, there are options to suit students and professionals of all ages who want to maximise their progress in a short window of time.

ESL · A world of languages

PRIVATE COURSE IN THE TEACHER’S HOME Our courses in the teacher’s home are available in 20 foreign languages in destinations that span the globe. Let us know your preferences, and we’ll match you with your perfect teacher and location! Teachers usually live in smaller towns or in the city suburbs. You’ll have an authentic local experience rather than being confined to the traditional “tourist trail”, although your teacher will also be an excellent guide to the area’s must-sees! With years of experience in language travel, we can help you find the destination that best suits your goals, as well as your budget. When suggesting course locations, we take into account your interests, the kind of teacher you’re looking for and the lifestyle that offers the best possible environment for your studies. Besides English, we organise French, Spanish, German, Italian and many more language courses in total immersion with host families.

THE ESL PROGRAMME One-to-one classes are ideal for achieving your personal goals. This programme is particularly suitable for professionals who need to work on specific language skills in their field, for students wishing to improve their language knowledge and for anyone who wants to prepare for an official exam. Regardless of your age or profession, studying in the teacher’s home will allow you to improve your language skills based on your needs. Whether you wish to practise conversation, target your problem areas with the language, or simply study at your own pace through a privileged relationship with your teacher, this programme gives you the opportunity to make significant progress in a minimum amount of time. Living with your teacher means that you’ll make the most of every moment to achieve your objectives not only during lessons, but also during the rest of the time you spend together. You won’t have the opportunity to speak in your native language, and the total immersion extends to conversations during meals, activities and social interactions you’ll have with the members of your teacher’s family in your target language. The “one-to-two” option enables you to book a private course with a friend, family member or a colleague with the same language level. Course content is entirely tailor-made prior to your arrival, and lessons are given all year round, even at Christmas, New Year or Easter.

Spoken by more than a billion people, the scope of Mandarin is almost unfathomable! The country of China has a surface area of more than 10 million square kilometres, so it’s no wonder you can easily get lost among its maze of valleys, monuments (the Great Wall is just one of many!) and its legendary dynasties. Discover Beijing, the Ming dynasty’s monumental capital, where old alleys overflow with history. The Forbidden City begs to be discovered! Shanghai, on the other hand, is nowadays a modern city with incredible shopping and nightlife. Xi’an and Qingdao are also worth a visit: the former for its impressive terracotta army, and the latter for its famous beer! Across the South China Sea, Taiwan is a lush, mountainous island off China’s southeast coast. Taiwan is a technological hotspot with glittering cities like Taipei, while the east coast is mostly wild: continuous tectonic movements over several millennia have shaped majestic mountains, rolling hills, steep cliffs and small coral archipelagos. Eight national parks ensure the preservation of Taiwan’s beautiful natural heritage. Learning Mandarin Chinese is your doorway to this incredible world!

The rich Russian language has a mysterious allure and plenty of magical places where you can choose to study it! Absolutely vast – spanning 11 time zones – Russia stretches from the Baltic Sea and the Finnish border to just across the Bering Strait from Alaska. So where do you start? For most people, the answer can be found in the two great Russian cities: St Petersburg and Moscow. You can still find spectacular fairy tale castles, but you’ll also find shiny new shopping centres and nightclubs. Once you’ve experienced the cities, be sure to explore out of town. Take an overnight train and wake up in a completely different landscape, such as the Black Sea coastline or the frozen vastness of Siberia. In Ukraine, the golden domes of cathedrals, Turkish architecture and Byzantine mosaics evoke the history of its diverse people. You’ll love the Ukrainians and their penchant for good food and wines! Then there’s Latvia, which opens onto the Baltic Sea. The capital city of Riga boasts natural treasures like white sand beaches along the Gulf of Riga, dense forests and lush meadows, and don’t forget about the warm, friendly people and surprisingly tasty food! Learning Russian is beyond tempting!

KIEV

UKRAINE

Thanks to the many parks surrounding the Dnieper, the immense river that crosses the Ukraine, the capital is full of green parks and areas that have been reconverted into beaches. The Russian courses in Kiev will transport you to a world of charm.

NovaMova This language school is located in the historic centre of Kiev, a short walk from the Saint Sofia Cathedral and the remains of the Golden Gate, which was once the main entrance to the city. In its modern premises, you will meet students from all over the world who have also chosen to study Russian in Kiev, the third largest Russian-speaking city in the world. NovaMova offers challenging Russian courses, based on interactive methods especially adapted for non-Russian speakers. Since language and culture are complementary, a varied and interesting activities programme will also be organised in the afternoons and evenings! You will have the opportunity to take part in the peer-coaching programme, meet students from Kiev’s universities and participate in Russian conversation exchanges. The school has 11 renovated, well-equipped classrooms and a projection room. A snack bar, library with a computer lab and free Wi-Fi are also available to students.
