PLAZA SANTA ANA La “Ermita de Santa Ana” fue construida fuera de las murallas de San Felipe en 1678. En consonancia con la estructura social de la época, se convirtió en un barrio económicamente más humilde; y durante muchos años, la zona junto a la iglesia era un mercado, no un parque. A finales del Siglo XIX se había convertido en el barrio más selecto de Panamá, con los mejores hoteles, teatros y tiendas de la ciudad. En la década de 1890, el área que rodeaba la iglesia fue convertida en un parque, Plaza Santa Ana. Durante muchos años la lotería se llamaba todos los miércoles y domingos desde la hermosa glorieta en el centro del parque. En diagonal, al otro lado de la esquina izquierda del parque, está el Café Coca Cola, fundado en 1875. Es el café más antiguo que opera en la ciudad. Era famoso como un punto de reunión para los políticos locales.
The “Ermita de Santa Ana” was built outside the walls of San Felipe in 1678. In keeping with the social structure of the times, it developed into a more economically humble neighborhood, and for many years, the area next to the church was a market, not a park. By the end of the 19th Century, it had evolved into Panama´s most sophisticated neighborhood with the city´s best hotels, theaters and shops. In the 1890´s, the area surrounding the church was made into a park, Plaza Santa Ana. For many years, the lottery was called every Wednesday and Sunday from the beautiful gazebo in the center of the park. Diagonally across from the left corner of the park is the Cafe Coca Cola, established in 1875. It is the oldest operating cafe in the city. It was famous as a gathering point for local politicians.
