MARKING COMMITTEE GETS COURSES READY FOR EVENTS Mary Keith

Our club is truly fortunate to have members that are willing to volunteer their time to make sure that our courses are clearly and correctly marked for play On Monday, August 21, the group got together to prepare the Lake Course for several important events: Tar Heel Women’s Golf Association, Club Championship and Men’s Member-Guest

What does the marking committee do? In addition to painting white lines for out-of-bounds and red lines for hazards, they place stakes, outline unplayable spots, determine drop zones and mark areas such as sink holes

The pictures below illustrate how the committee helps members and guests enjoy the game of golf because the courses are fairly and clearly marked.

When a course condition is deemed unsafe, it is outlined and a yellow stake is placed in the area to warn players Philippe Condoret is shown marking an area on Lake 18

Don Imbriale positions a red stake so that players can fairly determine the boundaries of a hazard An area that is considered ground under repair is outlined by Jerry Keith

Members of the committee were taught marking procedures by member, Joe Boyd In addition, two of our members, Susan Thorn and Mary Keith, helped to speed up the marking process by driving carts for the marking team

Susan commented that “Marking was fun." She saw areas of the course that are seldom seen and learned a lot about the reasons areas are marked or not marked The group of 5 completed marking the Lake Course in 3 hours and worked on marking the Creek Course throughout the week as their schedules permitted

We appreciate the hard work and skills of the Marking Committee You make our Club a great place to belong!

FEATURED RECIPE

As we get to these colder months, we start to make more soups, chili, and other hearty dishes. This salad is one of my personal favorites to add a variety to the heartiness of fall and winter.

The flavors of this salad still provide the comforting flavors that we associate with fall, but it breaks up the monotony of common seasonal dishes while presenting beautifully on your table.

I hope you enjoy this as much as my family does.

FITNESS UPDATE

Hello Carolina Trace Country Club! It has been a great summer, and we have enjoyed using the pool for our water aerobics class However, it is the end of summer; before it becomes “to cold,” we still have time to enjoy the outdoor weather!

Here are some great and easy exercises that you can do during the late summer and early fall outdoors:

Take a 30 minute walk outside around a local park

Head to your favorite hiking trail

Go to the mountains and pick apples

Find a local pumpkin patch to take a walk through Rake a pile of leaves to jump in

All of these activities are fun and easy to do - plus it provides the additional benefit of being outdoors to escape the monotony of indoor life.

As always, if there are any questions about what will be right for you, feel free to contact me
