WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER Andrea Knox

Holiday magic is in the air this December as we celebrate the season of giving. Thank you to everyone that is participating in our Annual Angel Tree. The Angel Tree program is an initiative through the Flagler County School system to provide Christmas gifts to deserving children. Our Women’s Golf Association takes charge of running the program here at the Club for us annually. With the support of the WGA and all of our Members, we can be very proud of the impact this program brings to so many children. Be sure to check out the Holiday Sale in the Golf Shop this month. If you aren’t sure what to get, we’re happy to help you make the perfect selection. Gift Cards are also a great option and could be used for anything from apparel and golf equipment to golf lessons or a meal at the Nicklaus Grille. Golfers, don’t forget to spend your Credit Book money before it expires at the end of the year. New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, and we are excited to have you join all your friends at the Club to ring in 2024. View the flyer in this news letter for details and call the Nicklaus Grille to make your reservations. We are filling up fast for this exciting evening of delicious food, dancing and celebration. Calling all golfers! How about ringing in the New Year with a fun Scramble! Breakfast sandwiches and lots of hot coffee will be served before the 10AM Shotgun (and an optional Bloody Mary Bar too) followed by a buffet and prizes. Kick off the new year with some fresh air and fun with friends. Make your own team or we can help pair you up. Call the golf shop for details or sign up today. Wishing you all Happy Holidays and a bright and joyous New Year. Now get out and play!

GOLF MESSAGE FROM THE PRO SHOP Billy Van Arsdale

This year’s Mens Member Guest was special, thank you to all the participants. The shootout final hole with Jim & J.D. Baldini vs. Dave Lyons & Spencer Elder came down to the wire. Dave Lyons two putted from 15 feet for a par to win. Jim and His son, J.D. played the hole well and both narrowly missed par putts. Golf Car Traffic: As we move into our heavy play season I would like to remind you all to use care driving your golf cars around the putting surfaces. Too many of our players are parking to close to the putting surfaces then driving over the curbs to access the paths. Number 11 is getting worn from the fringe to the path above the bunker. We are supposed to return to the path between the two bunkers. You are not walking any further by returning to the path properly there, it just takes 15 to 20 seconds more by returning to the path properly. The top of the greenside bunker is already getting worn by cart traffic. With the dry season upon us the grass cannot recover.

GREAT GOLF SHOTS Sunday, October 22nd Marion Hessert scored a hole in one on the Par 3 eighth hole using an 8 iron. Marion’s ace was witnessed by General Wil Hessert, John and Heidi Fitzgerald. During the LGL Ghosts & Gobblins tournament Al Aldecoa also aced the Par 3 eighth hole using an Gap Wedge. Al’s ace was witnessed by Beth Aldecoa, Sally Nord, and Karen Oorlog. During the Mens Invitational practice round Tony Arcaro’s guest, Jay Thyberg eagled the par 4 first hole using a niner iron for his second shot. This was Jay’s first ever Eagle! Bob Wolfe shot his age November 3rd with a round of 78. Bob’s round was witnessed by Bruce Smith, Tom Richards, and Nick Finelli.

FROM OUR GOLF LEAGUES LADIES 9 HOLE GOLF LEAGUE The Ladies Golf League held our annual Ghosts & Goblins scramble and Luncheon on October 19. Spouses and friends joined the LGL members to celebrate Halloween in a step aside scramble. There were 30 players in all. Camille Hinsch, Jack Hinsch, Louise Dycke and Marcia Munsterman made up the winning team. And Al Aldecoa added some excitement with a hole-in-one on the eighth hole. Needless to say, he also won the closest to the pin. On October 20, eleven LGL members played in a Coastal Niners event hosted by the Palm Harbor Ladies at Cypress Knoll. Several ladies won prizes, including Teresa Cox with the longest drive and Martha Ferguson with the closest to the 150 marker.

Karen Villanova and Maureen Pellegrini represented Grand Haven at the Debary Golfing Around the Holidays invitational. They had a wonderful time, with Karen's team finishing fourth and Maureen's third. Be on the lookout for a chance to sign up for more invitationals. Fifteen ladies from the LGL traveled up the road to the Conservatory for a Coastal Niners event. Our holiday tournament and luncheon will be December 14 with a theme of Winter Wonderland. We hope all our members will come join us that day.

The MGA is in the midst of our annual Holiday Classic, matching two teams in a two week Ryder Cup-like event. At the end of week 1, the Snowmen, captained by Otto Bohmueller and Bob Schwarzlow, and Rudolph’s Raiders, captained by Eli Smith and Al Aldecoa, are all even at nine points each. So, it will be an exciting finish on 12/6 as we crown our new champion. The golf will be followed by a luncheon that is included in the MGA dues. If you’re an 2023-24 MGA member, you are welcome to attend. For all men who are not, contact Carl Zimmermann (bzcz1227@yahoo.com) for information on how to join.

FROM OUR GOLF LEAGUES WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION - NOVEMBER UPDATE “Boo!” “Three cheers for the Red, White, and Blue!” “Gobble, Gobble!”~~all sentiments which may be heard coming from the members of the GHWGA during the October/November time period. Check out some scary but charming pictures from the Halloween Tournament! The Women’s Member-Guest Tournament was held on November 9-11. The challenging Par 3 Contest on Thursday was followed by two days of friendly competition, and a good time was had by all! December’s events include the Jingle Bell Scramble followed by the Christmas luncheon on December 19th. Seagals fared well at their competition held at Oceanside Country Club in November and will travel to LPGA on December 18th for their next outing entitled “4’s a Charm.” WPC will play at Club de Bonmont on December 15th. The Angel Tree has been assembled and decorated with “angel ornaments,” citing what local, less fortunate children would like to see under their trees this season. WGA members are busy purchasing gifts to make their wishes come true. The Christmas quilt will be raffled off at the December luncheon, the proceeds from which will be donated to the Angel Tree and Grace Food Bank charities. At this time of year WGA members enjoy reuniting with fellow golfing ladies who have returned from their summer months in various parts of the country. They also are thankful for the joyful season ahead, while counting the many blessings of the past year. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
