THE TRADITIONAL WAY OF LIFE HOU“E“

The traditional Turkish houses began to be built in Anatolia in the 15th and 16th centuries. The traditional Turkish house is usually one-storeyed. Most houses have at least two storeys. The upper storey is the main living area. The ground floor generally has a high, solid stone wall.

The main elements of the plans of traditional Turkish houses are rooms, halls, and stairs. The rooms were arranged to meet all the needs of their occupants. There, one could sit and rest, sleep, eat, worship, work and even take a bath. Cupboards, open shelves, storage cupboards and places for washing lining were used as furniture.

The divans ( sofa) placed in front of the windows were both seats and beds and left centers of the rooms free. The door is important element of the Turkish traditional houses. The handles symbolize the social status of the family. Y端kl端k( bedding cupboard) are the places where bedding materials are put.
