Air Pollution

By: André Márquez

The air pollution is a problem that we don’t realize it´s present everyday of our lives, it’s getting worse and we don’t do anything to change this, we even contribute to this when we don´t carpool with our friends who live near our house. The air pollution has been increasing potentially since the industrial revolution, because the companies started using a lot of machines that produced gases which damage our air. The greenhouse effect is what keeps planet Earth warm, what makes life possible in this place, obviously, as everything, when the quantity of gases is over the limit, the planet starts to overheat, and that’s exactly what’s happening, the poles are melting and the water level is increasing.

The greenhouse gases are mainly carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. These gases restrict the heat from going out of the atmosphere and contain it on Earth, this is a vital process because it keeps us warm, but it’s becoming a really serious problem. We need to be really careful with our planet, it’s our only home and we don´t know any other planet where we could live. Our future generations will be living in really awful conditions if we don’t change how we think about the air pollution. I hope schools would teach more about the global warming to make kids know what really happening, it´s not a fairytale.

Atoms for Peace “Amok”

Album Review Radiohead’s lead Singer, Thom Yorke, pulled out his funkiest álbum ever made until now. With lots of synths, just like the latest Radiohead albums; Amok gives Thom Yorke’s “The Eraser” part 2 feeling in sound, style, lyrics and even artwork. After listening to it, you can relate to the feeling of listening to Amnesiac after listening to to Kid A; but I mean, this is obvious because even The Eraser has a

The whole album makes honor to the band’s name, although it contains trippy rythms and weird lyrics, it is all surrounded in a peaceful mood. Maybe it’s not the best from Thom Yorke but it’s very acceptable, guitars are still missing, Yorke is overusing synths. It’s eird because Atoms for peace is also composed by Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s guitarist.

The Grand Design Literar y Criticism By: Ernesto Hernández

“The Grand Design”, referred to the universe itself is a book written by one of our era’s greatest masterminds: Stephen Hawking, in which he presents important laws of physics to understand possible theories of the Universe’s creation. What this book also tries to establish is that there is no need of a divine being for something to be created.

characters, nor a plot, not even a problem; it is more of a text-book with a literary touch. This book can cause trouble with religious people because it stands against all popular belief and use of faith, so it is not recommendable for intolerant people to read this book; but it can make a change to open-minded people.

Although the book talks about science and theories, it contains no

Suck It and See By: Alan Barraza

Those looking for evidence that things are as they always were in the world of Arctic Monkeys – that the celebrity girlfriends, chumminess with P Diddy and sojourns in Hollywood mansions while recording in LA have failed to impact on what Bernard Ingham would call the Yorkshireman's "awkward gene" – might alight on the two songs they chose to trail their fourth album. Brick By Brick was leaked by the band in March, three minutes of sludgy filler with drummer Matt Helders on vocals. "I wanna feel your love, I wanna steal your soul," it offered, "I wanna rock and roll."

The album takes as its starting point Humbug's (2009) least representative track, Cornerstone, a sighing, richly melodic lament at odds with the lurching, Josh Homme-produced darkness evident elsewhere. The result is the first Arctic Monkeys album that tries to ensnare the listener with its tunes, rather than guitar riffs or Turner's lyrics. Oddly, what its mid-tempo stew of thick basslines, feedback-laden guitar lines, churning chord progressions and thumping drums occasionally recalls – presumably unwittingly – is the ooh-look-at-the-cosh-boys Morrissey of the mid90s, though anyone who feels their spirits understandably sinking at the mention of that particular juncture of Morrissey's career should note that the contents of Suck It and See are noticeably tighter, lighter on their feet and infinitely more fun than anything on Southpaw Grammar.

In fact, Suck It and See's worst crime isn't overindulgence, but occasionally sounding ordinary. Listening to the couple of songs whose tunes don't effortlessly lodge themselves in your brain. There's no way anyone can deliver on that kind of start: better to become an increasingly well-rounded rock band, which is precisely what Suck It and See sounds like.

Atoms N o s for t a lPeace gia I remember that in my 6th birthday my mother gave me a bicycle as gift. I didn’t want it because I didn’t know how to ride it, but my mom insisted me to try it, so I started riding. The first time I fell and it hurt, the second time was the same, but at that point, I really wanted to make it, so I tried the third time and learned how to ride a bicycle.

It was a lesson to the future to me, because everything you want to do, you can, anything is possible as well as you want and try it so hard, more than anything.

It’s like when you want to get an A in a test, you study for that, and if you fail, you do it again and again, and if you fail the second chance you try it again and again until you get what you want, in this example, until you get the A you wanted and for what you studied.

Gandhi By: Alan Barraza

Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, India, Mahatma Gandhi studied law and came to advocate for the rights of Indians, both at home and in South Africa. Gandhi became a leader of India's independence movement, organizing boycotts against British institutions in peaceful forms of civil disobedience. He was killed by a fanatic in 1948.

Indian nationalist leader Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, more commonly known as Mahatma Gandhi, was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Kathiawar, India. He studied law in London, England, but in 1893 went to South Africa, where he spent 20 years opposing discriminatory legislation against Indians. As a pioneer of Satyagraha, or resistance through mass non-violent civil disobedience, he became one of the major political and spiritual leaders of his time. Satyagraha remains one of the most potent philosophies in freedom struggles throughout the world today.

In 1914, Gandhi returned to India, where he supported the Home Rule movement, and became leader of the Indian National Congress, advocating a policy of non-violent non-cooperation to achieve independence. His goal was to help poor farmers and laborers protest oppressive taxation and discrimination. He struggled to alleviate poverty, liberate women and put an end to caste discrimination, with the ultimate objective being self-rule for India.

How to do: An Ollie By: André Márquez

The “Ollie” is the most basic and necessary skateboarding trick, it was invented by Alan Gelfand “Ollie” in transition, and was adapted to the streets by Rodney Mullen in the 80’s decade. The equipment you are going to need is a skateboard and skateboarding shoes. The first thing you need to do is to put your back foot on the tail of the board and your front foot somewhere in the middle, wherever you feel comfortable enough riding your skateboard. The second thing will “pop” your tail to the ground and jump while sliding your front foot up, just guiding your skateboard in the air; prepare for the landing and bend your knees to prevent injury. Once you have mastered the Ollie, you will be able to do it down stairs, over things, etc. Now you are ready to start doing all kinds of flip tricks. This is when skateboarding gets really fun.

E x c h a n g e To Orange County

By: Cristian AvendaĂąo

In October of 2011 I had the opportunity to participate in an exchange to a school in the United States of America. This was such a great experience. It all started when a teacher told us if anyone was interested in going to a high school in U.S.A., I put my name in the lists and waited for the call. Finally they said to me that I was one of the chosen ones, I was very happy because of this. They gave me a list with the name of the family that was going to receive me in it. This one is the Castro family, and my brother’s name in the exchange is Jon-Cruz Castro. They live in Capistrano Beach but the Waldorf High school is 30 minutes far in Orange County. I was there for six days and five nights, in that time I was able to go to

his high school and take their classes. One class that surprised me was the auritmia class, which consists in coordination with your body, music and sometimes extra objects. But the school wasn’t the best part. I was able to practice my English and get along with the students. They took us to different places like the movie theater, bowling and to different restaurants. I also visited the Huntington Beach for the first time and the Getty Museum in Santa Monica. I had such a great time and made a true friendship that I visited the same family I stayed the first time and they took me to more beaches and taught me how to surf on a long board, and bodysurf too. It was an amazing experience and I hope to go back soon..

Chernobyl Nuclear P wer Plant Disaster

By: Cristian Avendaño

The reactor four at the nuclear power plant near Chernobyl, Ukraine exploded on April 26th, 1986. This catastrophe realized more than a hundred times the radiation of the Hiroshima’s bomb. When the power plant exploded 31 persons died at the instant, and thousands of more died from the long-term effects. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant was built in the marshlands of northern, Ukraine, approximately 80 miles north of Kiev. The fourth reactor went online in 1983 and in just three years the disaster occurred. All this happened because on April 25th, 1986, the reactor four was going to shut down, but first the technicians were also going to run a test, so they turn off several of the safety systems. Just after 1

a.m. on April 26th, 1986, the reactor’s power dropped suddenly, causing a potentially dangerous situation. The reactor exploded at 1:23 a.m. The world discovered the accident two days later, thanks to the other plants that register unusually high radiation readings near the plants. Chernobyl wasn’t evacuated until May 2nd, six days later. Nowadays Chernobyl is an abandoned city, the radiation was too big, but many people are working to keep the radiation lever under control. Some of the diseases that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster caused were cancers, cataracts and cardiovascular diseases.

How to do a Push-Up By: Cristian Avendaño Push ups are commonly used as a mild physical punishment in the military or martial arts, but what they don’t know is that the punished is benefited by this exercise. The push up exercises the pectoral muscles, triceps and anterior deltoids. A basic push up does not require any equipment other than your own body weight and your arms. Let’s begin. First of all you have to warm up before doing this exercise, stretch your arms and wrists. Then you have to go to the right position, this is getting on the floor with your hands palms-down the floor, appro-

ximately shoulder width apart, your feet should be shoulder width apart as well. Now you have to raise yourself using your arms, and then lower your torso to the ground, not touching it, until your elbows form a 90 degrees angle. Finally raise yourself by pushing the ground away from you, you should inhale while you are going down and exhale while you are pushing. Push ups have a lot of variations that work differently. But this one is the main one. Do this push up three days a week, doing three sets of fifteen repetitions each.

Beauty, Beyond The Image By: Santiago RamĂrez Throughout history the concept of beauty has changed a lot, before, a beautiful person needed to be a little overweight and to reflect an image of tenderness, the classic child that all want to pinch his cheeks. But now everything is very different, to be considered beautiful you must have certain characteristics and now overweight persons cannot be considered beautiful. But, why all these changes in the concept? In a globalized world, as in we live today the media control more than we imagine the decisions we take, because we take them thinking on previous statements heard or saw on the tv, radio, etc. but rarely we stop to analyze and evaluate whether they are ideas that we take as ours or if we are doing what we are doing just to comply with the provisions of the majority.

Fair is in this part where social problems begin, there are people so focused on feeling beautiful, as the media define it, that they begin to fall in extremes such as anorexia, bulimia or vigorexia to lose weight and enter the desired status, all this actions generate serious health problems and in cases leading to death. It’s important to redefine our concept of beauty and quite important is also support people who have suffered the consequences of the actual percepts of beauty, educate young people to be beautiful beyond being lean and muscular, or thin and sharp curved. Being beautiful is to take a look in the morrir and feel comfortable about your body, with the image you project, with the actions you do every day and specially feel good about yourself.

Imprezav´s Lancer Which one is better?

By: Santiago Ramírez

From a long time ago there’s been a discussion about which rally car is better, Subaru Impreza WRX STI or Mistubishi Lancer Evo XI, there are some clue point of comparison like acceleration, horsepower, transmission, torque, engine and top speed. After comparing both cars in all this points we will be able to establish our posture and decide which is better. First, the engine, based on the latest version the Lancer is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-liter inline-four that produces 291 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, otherwise the Subaru feeds from a 2.5liter boxer four that produces 305 horsepower at 6,000 rpm along with 290 lb-ft of torque at

4,000 rpm with the help of a turbocharger and a intercooler. Not that much difference, so we can establish a draw in this point. Then we have the transmission, such as they are rally cars both use All Wheel Drive (AWD) systems, which means they transfer the power to all the wheels instead of only the frontal axle, as normal 4 cylinders cars.Mitsubishi calls Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) to his AWD system, it allows for torque to be apportioned to the front or rear wheels as needed by driving conditions, the default power split is

28

50:50 front/rear, while up to 80% can be sent to the other end. In the case of Subaru we’ve got a limited-slip center to enhance torque transfer performance, the default torque split is 41:59 front/ rear and it can be set to an even 50:50 distribution. Because of the complexity and the technology this is a point to Mitsubishi engineers. Last but not leastwe have the acceleration and top speed. Impreza needs 5.3 seconds to reach the 100 km/h from the repose, and it is able to hit the 250 km/h, a little better than the 6.2 seconds that the Lancer takes to overtake the 100 km/h from the repose, and the

nothing bad 243 km/h top speed. Here Mazda is the clear winner because it may sound a little bit a difference of 1 second but it is a lot when you are comparing two cars that are almost the same in theory. After all the analysis we can conclude that both Lancer and Impreza have almost the same Horsepower, torque, top speed, transmission, etc. the only “big difference could be the body but both have prominent air intakes and exaggerated spoilers, so it depends on the person, in my opinion the Impreza is better but in theory they are the same.

Mother Teresa By: Santiago Ramírez

Mother Teresa is recognized as a hard working person. She discovered her vocation when she was only twelve years old, it was to help the poor. She started all his work deciding how to do it, after thinking she decided to become a missionary, so she traveled to India and at the age of eighteen she joined the Irish nuns, the Sisters of Loreto. In 1928 she took her initial vows as a nun. She started an open air school for homeless children with any funds. She was helped by volunteers

and in October 7, 1950 she received permission to start her own “Missionaries of Charity” which cared and loved the people who nobody else cared for. For all the work Mother Teresa did she received the following awards: 1971 The Pope John XXIII Peace Prize, 1972 The Nehur Prize for International Peace and Understanding, 1979 The Balzan Prize for Promotion of Peace and Brotherhood in Nations.

A Perfect Dream By: Luis Ortega

I maybe shouldn’t be telling this but, I had a dream last week, on Thursday night I thought, and I just can’t hold it anymore, it was the most beautiful dream that i have ever had in my life.

You know that I have been having this kind of dreams since that happened, every night, almost the same, quick and horrible dream, but since that dream, I just have been sleeping and dreaming dark, I mean, I just close my eyes and wake up in the morning with no dream to tell about, with no fear, preoccupation at all, it have just been good.

-“So sir, What is it about?, I’m dying to know, and hurry, cause we can’t be here for too long, they might came”-, of course boy, well, I remember just her with the seventh pregnant belly and me hugging her, just enjoying the beach with a perfect sunset, just in the hot sand, I dreamed that I kiss her and tell her that I loved her and always will, just that, en then, I woke up, and so my beautiful dream was over, but I’m happy, you know why little boy?, -“why sir?”-, cause now I know she is waiting for me somewhere in heaven, and I just hope to reach it, and be with her and my son, -“of course sir, you will, but right now we need to go, and hurry cause they are here”-, yeah, sorry boy, lets run.

Chargers, is it time?

By: Luis Ortega

The chargers are a professional team of the NFL, founded in August 1959 by Barron Hilton in Los Angeles, they later moved to San Diego in 1961, the NFL is divided into two different divisions, the American and the National, San Diego Chargers is part of the American division.

The chargers main staff is the offensive coordinator names Ken Whisenhunt, defensive coordinator called Don Jhonson and the head coach called Mike Mc Coy, recently gathered from the San Diego chargers, and this will be his first season as head coach of this team, and so the fans are waiting for good results from him and the team. The main problem of the team is its band results in the last seasons, all media said about the bad coaching, the bad administration etc., but the charger are making huge changes in all aspects of the team, and all of it just to get better results the next season and end with this bad reputation that has been following the team since years ago. Some of the big changes that the team has made is firing the last season’s head coach, Norv Turner, this will bring hope to the fans to stay with San Diego and finally see some positive results in the next season, and so, one of the most important events at the moment is that the draft, coming next April 26th, the draft is the main event of the pre-season, this means several new players are coming to see if one professional team, out of 32 choose them to play with them, the teams will choose a pick, and so, the chargers had an excellent position, 11, so this is giving the team a great opportunity to fill the roster with excellent players, and so getting better and better.

Ladanian Tomlinson, of the best running backs from all times, played for San Diego chargers and recently, nominated for the hall of fame

Also the chargers got very good players from the period of free agency of the NFL, this means gathering other players from all the teams, the most important player the got was Danny Woodhead, from the New England Patriots, this is excellent player of the offense, running and catching the ball. The chargers, with different coach, different administration, different and new players, will bring to the team a different system of playing, we hope this gives a better level to the team so it can get far in the tables next .season.
