The National Vegetation Classification Scheme (NVC) was developed in the 1990s and is seen as one of the main ways of classifying habitats using vegetation recorded within quadrats. You will learn about the background to the NVC, how it is used and can be interpreted, how to carry out an NVC survey and how to analyse NVC data. Includes classroom and practical sessions. Autumn Wildlife Painting for Beginners

Autumn is a lovely time to study the plants found on the nature reserve, Bring along your watercolours to have a go at mixing their beautiful colours and drawing the delicate seed heads. The session will be held in the nature centre where you will be able to study your subject in comfort making sensitive paintings directly from nature. Tuition in will be given by Kate Houghton.

Winter Wildlife Painting for Beginners

Brighten up a Winter’s day drawing from plants found on the nature reserve. Bring along your watercolours to have a go at mixing the subtle colours found at this time of year. The session will be held in the nature centre where you will be able to study your subject in comfort making sensitive paintings directly from nature. Tuition in will be given by Kate Houghton who is committed to the role drawing can play in learning about the natural world.

This course covers the essential techniques required to assess wildlife habitats and sites using Phase I Habitat Surveys. This is suited to anyone wishing to carry out basic ecological surveys in relation to conservation, site management, planning and development. Includes practical application of the techniques on Attenborough Nature Reserve. Tutor: Debbie Alston CIEEM

Through this course you’ll learn about the key features of the Asteraceae (Daisy family). Develop your knowledge of the key features for identifying dandelion lookalikes. Use a range of keys to decide which genus a dandelion look-alike is in and gain confidence in identifying dandelion look-alikes. The course leaders will assume you have knowledge of botany and botanical terms. Tutor: Margaret Crittenden
