OVERVIEW This diploma programme captures and enhances the Mäori essence and protocols of what is collectively known as Mäori art. During the programme you will be taught through the following papers: Creative Process: using drawing and design process to develop ideas and work. Media Practice: exploring media potential to develop ideas. Cultural Studies: understanding kawa and tikanga and the concepts of wairua, whanaungatanga and türangawaewae. Studio Management and Practice: organisation, time management, presentation and documentation within studio.

ENTRY DETAILS Applicants need to meet the academic criteria for entry to each level of the programme. Each level entry will be by interview, and acceptance will be at the discretion of the Pouako teaching the programme.

DIPLOMA IN

MĀORI VISUAL ARTS LEVELS 4, 5, 6 TOI PAEMATUA

Level 4: • be aged 16 years of age or over • be a New Zealand citizen; and • be committed to completing the programme successfully

Level 5: • by admissions committee; or • through RPL (recognition of prior learning) or CC (cross credit), which may include interview, portfolio and testimonial using Level 5 objectives as criteria for admission; or • Evidence of achievement: University Entrance, Sixth Form Certificate, completion of a foundation level arts course or Level 4 of Toi Paematua Diploma in Mäori Visual Art. • Applicant will submit a portfolio of work with a covering letter describing the work • Applicant will attend an interview

FEES

Level 6: Entry is subject to tauira having successfully completed a Level 5 programme of study by meeting the following minimum requirements: • Achievement of all Level 5 papers; or • Discretion of admissions committee based on the tauira ability to be able to meet the Level 6 requirements; or • Entry though RPL ( recognition of prior learning) or CC (cross credit) process, which may include interviews, portfolio and testimonials, using Level 5 objectives as criteria for admission.
