WHITNEY

Whitney Morse, Artistic Director, The Sharon® L. Morse Performing Arts Center

This May at The Studio Theatre™: This month we have a special treat for you at The Studio Theatre™! We are bringing Broadway to The Villages® in Hear My Songs: The Music of Jason Robert Brown. We have four Broadway performers in this concert. They are lead by Music Director, Randy Redd, who has worked with Jason Robert Brown himself in the original Broadway cast of Parade. For seven nights only we will celebrate the music of this amazing composer with a special concert direct from New York City. You may be wondering how this all came about, well it’s a story grown right here in Central Florida. Rewind all the way back to 2003 when I first met our Director of this project: Yvette Kojic. She was a brand new freshman at Rollins College and I was a senior. We were assigned to each other as “big sis,” and “little sis,” in the theatre department. It was my job to show her the ropes and help her get to know everyone. We became fast friends and have been buddies ever since. We both ended up in New York at the same time and the rest is history. Yvette now works as a Director and Producer in New York as well as working with child performers with Broadway Workshop. We have been talking about working together on a project like this for years, and now everything has fallen into place. Since we know how much you all love Jason Robert Brown after our productions: The Last Five Years and Songs for a New World, we thought you might enjoy hearing some of his other works along with some you’ll recognize performed by Broadway talent. We really hope you enjoy this very special offering. See you at The Studio!

No Rehearsals. No Director. No Set. Never performed the same twice.

With no rehearsal, no director, a different actor each night, and a script waiting in a sealed envelope on stage, internationally acclaimed White Rabbit Red Rabbit by Iranian writer Nassim Soleimanpour, is an audacious theatrical experiment and a potent reminder of the transgressive and transformative power of theatre. Since its joint premiere in 2011 in Edinburgh and Summerworks festival, it has been translated into more than 25 different languages and been performed over 1000 times by some of the biggest names in theatre and film including actors John Hurt, Whoopi Goldberg, Nathan Lane, Stephen Rea, Sinead Cusack, Marcus Brigstocke, Dominic West, and film director Ken Loach.
