George Behr-1 was born about 1710 in Dossenheim, Baden-W端rttemberg, Germany. He died before 1778 in Orangeburg District. Notes for George Behr: General Notes: REF: Bettie Berry ltr 31Aug99 The first mention found of George Behr is taken from the South Carolina Council Journals, pages 536-537: "The Petition of George Beher humbly shewing That your Peti'r and large family travelled from their native Country to Rotterdam and shipt themselves on board the Culiffe, Captn Cleater, being informed of great Encouragem't given in this Province to foreign Protestants & is discharged from y'e ship and desirous of immediately settling on some land in y'e Province, The Peti'r has a Wife and five children viz Kath aged 21 years, Adam 18, Mary 16, John 14, Barbara 12 years and never had any land granted him, prays to lay out 350 acres of land to the Peti'r free of charges and that he may have his Majesty's Bounty. Charles Town, the 4th of Nov'r 1752. George Behr. The prayer thereof was granted." On the microfilm of land grants, is the following entry: Behr George Orangeb'g 350 6 179 14 Nov 1754 (The last digit is obscure but looks like a 4.) There were many families aboard the Cunliffe from the area of Dossenheim, Beden, Germany, as well as another Bair named Christopher, who arrived in the Colony in the 1740's from Menhiem that settled in Saxe Gotha, South Carolina. Unknown (Wife of George Behr) was born in Germany. She died before 1752 in Germany. George Behr and Unknown (Wife of George Behr) married. They had the following children:

Jacob Bair was born between 1759-1765 in Orangeburg District, SC. He died in 1824 in Orangeburg District, SC.

Generation 3 3.

Jacob Bair-3 (John-2, George-1) was born between 1759-1765 in Orangeburg District, SC. He died in 1824 in Orangeburg District, SC. Notes for Jacob Bair: General Notes: REF: Bettie Berry ltr 31Aug99 There are two known Jacob Bairs who lived during approximately the same period. When John wrote his will prior to 1766, he already had two sons, the eldest being Jacob. The other Jacob, was probably a descendant of Christopher Behr who settled in Saxegothe, and probably the son of James Bare, recorded as living in the St. Matthews area in the jury lists. There were four daughters listed in this Jacob Bair household on the 1800 census. From the age categories, it would appear that the eldest child was a female, then perhaps John, then three other girls. We may never trace the girls, since all the children were already grown and out of the house before the census started giving the children's names and ages. Church records from the Four Holes Baptist Church of Orangeburg Co., S.C., lists as pastor from 1813- 1825, one Jacob Bair. This is the record of his death from the Minutes of the Charleston Association: "We have also to lament the death of our beloved brother, Rev. Jacob Bair, who since our last meeting (November 1824) has left us for the joys of his Lord. Brother Bair was instrumental in building up the church of which he was the highly esteemed pastor." Ann. Jacob Bair and Ann married. They had the following children:

Mary was probably too old to have borne him, and he was not listed by the family historian**, so apparently he must have been a grandchild or some other relative. Most of the information on the John Bair family came from the history compiled by NellieRayRastBair, the wife of JohnShelton Bair, a descendant of John. **unclear at this time who this "family historian" is, whether NellieRayRastBair or other.
