It’s a Virtual World

A new free app for smartphones will open up a beautiful walking route around Erewash, with the route offering the chance to view an innovative world filled with virtual reality art, 3D models and more.

Erewash Borough Council’s Arts Development and Sport and Health teams have worked in partnership with TagTapAR! on the arts trail project, part of the ongoing drive to encourage people to be outdoors and taking part in gentle exercise.

Earlier this year residents were encouraged to submit their own art to the challenge of ‘dreams for a brighter and more sustainable future’.

Now residents can virtually view the work of the successful entrants by using the app.

Councillor Carol Hart, Leader of the Council, says:

“The Arts Trail is an innovative and interactive stroll – a great way for residents to enjoy the benefits of walking and appreciate some thoughtful art.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for families to boost their wellbeing and enjoy a creative experience that involves the whole borough.

“It’s a great example of this council working in partnership for the wellbeing of our community.”

Nominations

Nominations have now closed for the 2022 Active Lives Awards. The winners will be announced on Thursday 6 October at a celebration awards evening.

The Active Lives Awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate those in the community who continuously go above and beyond to positively impact the lives and health of others.

There are 10 award categories celebrating the athletes, coaches, organisations and volunteers in Erewash who have made great sporting achievements over the past year.

Total Wipeout

Children of Erewash have had a fun and active summer thanks to a travelling inflatable obstacle course!

Throughout July and August, Erewash Borough Council’s Sport and Health Development Team toured Ilkeston and Long Eaton with a mammoth obstacle course. The course was a whopping 42 feet long and 12 feet tall boasting all manner of obstacles including a tunnel, hurdles and a slide to finish.

Across six days and four locations, hundreds of children have enjoyed the course for free as part of the Summer Outreach Programme.

Fast Funding is the new name for Erewash Borough Council’s Small Grants scheme to help local organisations that need support for their work.

The new name follows a rebranding to better reflect a new streamlined and less complicated approach for applications for funding of up to £500 - with a dynamic approach aimed at ensuring faster responses. Applications for Fast Funding can be submitted anytime, subject to available funding, until 20 December.

It is just one of the grant schemes offered to organisations in the borough, with the support on offer for projects that benefit residents in Erewash.
