Lei è Skye Sweetnam, viene dal Canada, e ha esordito a soli 14 anni con l’album solista Noise From The Basement (Capitol Records/Emi) uscito precisamente il 21 settembre 2004 (il 29 ottobre in Italia), anticipato dal singolo Tangled Up To Me, riscuotendo un successo planetario. Ha collaborato con produttori di successo, tra cui Max Martin, Dr Luke, The Matrix, Tim Armstrong. Skye Sweetnam aprì il tour di Britney Spears per oltre 50 date e successivamente si esibì in un lungo tour in Giappone come headliner. Il secondo album Sound Of Soldier uscì a distanza di tre anni nel quale spicca il singolo (Let’s Get Movin’) Into Action in duetto con Tim Armstrong (Rancid). Dopo 2 album, Skye decise che era il momento di dare una scossa alla sua carriera artistica prendendo un’altra direzione, quella del rock n roll! Nel 2011 nascono così i SUMO CYCO, una rock band di quattro elementi con voce femminile. La musica dei Sumo Cyco potrebbe essere descritta come un incrocio tra Gwen Stefany e System Of A Down, o tra i No Doubt e i Pantera. Il loro sound unisce chitarre heavy metal e ritmi dance hall in completa fusione e armonia con l’incredibile voce di Skye! SUMO CYCO hanno tutte le carte in regola per diventare la band rivelazione mondiale del 2015, per la loro personalità e identità ben definite, per la loro musica originale e innovativa e per la loro forte e accattivante immagine, nonché per i loro show spettacolari.
L’album d’esordio “Lost In Cyco City” è uscito lo scorso 10 giugno 2014 esclusivamente per il mercato canadese, mentre cresce l’attesa per il 25 maggio 2015, data in cui l’intero album sarà rilasciato amche in Europa. I Sumo Cyco hanno già realizzato ben 10 videoclip, interamente autoprodotti e nati dalla mente di Skye Sweetnam, raggiungendo decine di migliaia di visualizzazioni! Una serie di video b-movie tra l’horror e il grottesco, in stile Grindhouse. Inoltre il video virale di “Interceptor” è stato presentato nel famoso programma “MTV Ridicolousness” dopo che Skye, durante le riprese del video, aveva sbattuto la testa su un ventilatore nel soffitto. I Sumo Cyco hanno vinto il premio “Best-Female Fronted” ai Toronto Independent Music Awards (2011/2012) condividendo il palco con Finger Eleven, Hollywood Undead, Ill Scarlett, solo per citarne alcuni. Alcuni singoli di successo dei Sumo Cyco sono stati mixati da da famosi produttori canadesi, tra i quali Jag Tanna (I Mother Earth), Giulio “Juice” Butty (Alexis On Fire) e Matt De Matteo (Big Wrech). SUMO CYCO BIOGRAPHY Sumo Cyco is a four-piece female fronted hard rock band out of Toronto, Canada. Sumo Cyco released their debut record “Lost In Cyco City”on June 10th 2014 in Canada in partnership with Fontana Nord. An International release is to follow in October 2014. In the last three years, has been part of festivals including NXNE, Warped Tour, S.C.E.N.E. and Indie Week, taking home the title of Indie Week Canada winners in 2013. The band headlined Indie Week Ireland April 2014 and continued on their “Lost in the UK“ tour in May 2014. Sumo Cyco could be described as Gwen Stefany meets System Of a Down. Their sound blends heavy metal guitars, with in your face blast beats, dance hall rhythms, and molten lava female vocals topping it off. Sumo Cyco is Skye “Sever“ Sweetnam, Matt “MD13“ Drake, Ken “Thor“ Corke, Andy “The Wolf“ Joseph. Since forming in 2011, Sumo Cyco has taken a novel approach to realising music. They have recorded and released 9 singles digitally to date, along side grindhouseesc b-movie videos. The band takes pride in creating a strong online presence, creating their own content, and promoting and marketing it themselves. Sumo Cyco’s video for “Interceptor“ was featured on youtuber Ray William Johnson’s channel with over 5 million views, after “Sever“ hit her head on a ceiling fan during the video shoot. The viral video was aired on MTV’s Ridiculousness and Toh.O, all creative marketing by the band. SC’S music videos have gained hundreds of thousands of views, each one filled with hot, hard, in your face energy, done on a shoestring budget, and directed and produced by the band. Sumo Cyco was born from the brains of Juno nominated artist Skye “Sever“ Sweetnam & Matt “MD13“ Drake. Sweetname has signed to Capitol Records and EMI (Sony/ATV) publishing at the tender age of fourteen. She has worked with hit makers such as Dr Luke, Max Martin, The Matrix and Tim Armstrong (Rancid).Tim’s hit “Into Action“ ft Sweetnam voice was the most requested song on KROQ in LA in 2009. Sweetnam hired Drake in 2003 along with Sumo Cyco band member Ken “Thor“ Corke as musicians to back her on her many tours including 50 dates opening for Britney Spears and a headlining tour in Japan. After two full-lenght albums, Sweetnam decided to take her career in another direction, craving control and rock n’ roll. 1ST PART Partiamo dal nome della band, perchè avete deciso di chiamarvi Sumo Cyco? Quali temi trattate nelle vostre canzoni? Il nome Sumo Cyco è venuto fuori mentre stavamo inserendo parole a caso in un sito che genera nomi per le band. Una delle parole suggerite era Sumo e l'altra Psyco. Mi è piaciuta la combinazione dei due nomi perchè entramibi descrivevano il nostro sound. "Sumo" coe qualcosa di grande, pesante, difficile da mancare e "Psyco" come pazzo, folle. Abbiamo preso l'abbreviazione di Psyco in "Cyco" dalla band Suicidal Tendencies, i quali abbreviarono psyco in quel modo nel titolo della loro canzone "Cyco Vision". Quali sono le vostre principali influenze oggigiorno? Da dove prende ispirazione la vostra musica? Ci sono delle band che ispirano particolarmente il vostro sound? Le nostre influenze girano intorno a più cose, musica, arte, film e cultura. Musicalmente parlando, alcune delle nostre ispirazioni provengono da band come Rage Against The Machine, No Doubt, Refused, Skindred, System of a Down giusto per citarne alcuni. (Sever) Ci sono momenti in cui vocalmente mi sento come Mike Patton o Gwen Stefani o Benji Webbe. Ognuno di voi ha un soprannome. Come nascono? Ognuno di noi ha suonato in altre band precedentemente, dare ad ognuno un soprannome è un modo per ridefinire noi stessi in questo progetto. SEVER nasce dall'idea di cominciare daccapo, rompendo i legami con la versione di me che non credevo di dover lasciar andare cambiando percorso musicale così drasticamente. MD13 sono l'iniziale del nome e del cognome di Matt e il suo numero preferito. THOR è il vero secondo nome di Ken. THE WOLF è stato assegnato ad Andy perchè aveva tantissimi capelli da sembrare quelli di un animale... ora li ha tagliati e non ha più molto senso. E' mai successo che qualcuno di voi scrivesse una canzone e non piacesse agli altri? Matt Drake (chitarrista) produce tutte le tracce. Lui scrive la musica e poi Sever scrive i testi e le melodie. Di solito Sever e Matt sono i due che si confrontano su come dovrebbe uscire la canzone. Thor e Andy aggiungono i particolari con le parti di basso e batteria. Penso che tutti abbiamo la nostra idea su come suonerebbe meglio una traccia, ma non credo ci sia mai stata una volta in cui abbiamo scritto una canzone che non piacesse a qualcuno di noi.

1ST PART Puntate sempre al massimo e secondo noi siete riusciti ad ottenere dei grossi risultati finora. Qual'è la massima aspirazione della band? Ci piacerebbe tantissimo riuscire a dire a tutti i fan che ci seguono che possano venire a sentirci in una città vicina a loro. La nostra maggiore aspirazione è quella di girare in più posti possibile per poter incontrare tutti i nostri fan che sono sempre fantastici con noi. La band ha guadagnato molta visibilità grazie all'apparizione del video di "Interceptor" nel famoso programma "MTV Ridiculousness" dopo che Skye, durante le riprese, sbattè la testa su un ventilatore nel soffitto. Vi aspettavate tutto questo? Come avete reagito? Non ci aspettavamo di avere un incidente simile ripreso dalla videocamera ma una volta visto il video sapevamo che avremmo ricevuto un sacco di visualizzazioni una volta postato. Tantissima gente guarda questo tipo di 'fail video' online. Così, sapendo che la gente avrebbe cliccato sul video, abbiamo fatto in modo di legarlo alla promozione del nostro video musicale. E' incredibile quanti fan siamo riusciti a guadagnare attraverso quel video idiota. L'album di debutto "Lost in Cyco City" è uscito lo scorso 10 giugno 2014 esclusivamente per il mercato canadese. Come è nato? che temi tratta? "Lost in Cyco City" è nato perchè molti fans ci hanno chiesto un album. Appena uscito l'album, abbiamo pubblicato un singolo e relativo video musicale a pochi mesi di distanza. Ci piace fare così perchè dà ad ogni canzone la propria interpretazione visiva. A volte le canzoni vengono tralasciate quando sono raggruppate all'interno di un album... tutti amano i singoli in questi tempi. In Canada abbiamo ricevuto una sovvenzione per registrare l'album, quindi abbiamo pensato fosse ora di mettersi al lavoro insieme. Alcune delle canzoni sono state scritte anni fa, ma la maggior parte parla del combattere i demoni interiori. Ho sempre sostenuto che la guerra più grande che combatti è quella contro te stesso. Il vostro peggior concerto? e il migliore? Ad essere sincera non so se posso pensare ad un peggio o meglio. Ogni membro della band probabilmente ha le proprie preferenze. Il mio (Sever) potrebbe essere l'ultimo tour in Gran Bretagna, sono stata malata per un paio di giorni. A Derby è stato probabilmente dove mi sono sentita peggio, il migliore è stato il nostro ultimo concerto a Burlington, ON. Vorrei comunque sempre dire che l'ultimo concerto dovrebbe essere il migliore perchè sono sempre più preparata e ho sempre più esperienza. Ci sono comportamenti nel pubblico che non vi piacciono? Non c'è mai stato un pubblico che non mi sia piaciuto. Finchè c'è rispetto per la band, lo staff e il resto dei fan non ci sono problemi.

1ST PART Avete qualche rito superstizioso prima di salire sul palco? Non superstiziosi. Personalmente mi piace prendere uno shot di Whiskey, fare un pò di stretching e scaldare la voce. Mi è sempre piaciuto stare per conto mio o con gli altri della band prima di salire sul palco. Non mi piace parlare con la gente fino a dopo lo spettacolo, perchè urlare sopra la musica alta non è mai sano per la voce. In Aprile sarete in Italia ed Europa per un nuovo tour. Ci sono particolari posti che vorreste visitare? Ad essere sinceri siamo già contenti di intraprendere un tour europeo e incontrare nuovi fan. Ogni show sarà unico ma sono sicura che sarà una bomba! Spaccheremo! Abbiamo sempre voluto suonare in Italia! Ho sentito i fan oltreoceano e sono impazziti! Com'è la scena musicale canadese? Potete dirci qualcosa a riguardo? Ci sono delle band canadesi che volete consigliarci? La scena musicale canadese attualmente gira tutta intorno all'Indie, non necessariamente band indipendenti, solo band dal sound "indie". Non ci sentiamo propriamente dentro la scena, ma essere dei ribelli è sempre stato nella nostra natura dopotutto! Ci sono delle band forti, recentemente siamo diventati fan degli OBGM's, Voltang, Courage My Love, Partycat, Slivergun & Spleen. Ci sono delle news che potete anticipare ai nostri lettori? Si, ad Aprile uscirà il nostro quinto video autodiretto di "Fighter" dall'album "Lost in Cyco City": Siamo molto entusiasti di questa canzone!

2ST PART Il tuo primo concerto con una band? MD: Port Hope Band Shell SEVER: Elton John THOR: Chaka Khan ANDY: Il mio primo concerto con una band è stato in un posto a Toronto in Canada chiamato "the rocket" sabato 3 aprile 2004. Il primi concerti che abbia mai visto sono stati quelli dei Linkin Park, POD e Hoobastank nel 2003 . La tua prima esperienza in uno studio di registrazione? MD: A 16 anni registrando ai Chalet Studios, più parti di registrazione. La registrazione è venuta da schifo, ma è un bello studio. SEVER: a 12 anni ai Lydian Studios registrando la mia prima demo. THOR: Guardando mio padre registrare le parti di basso ai Grant Avenue Studios ANDY: Nel 2007 con i Neigbourood noise in un studio a Mississauga Ontario Canada. 2ST PART Un messaggio per le generazioni future? MD: Imparate come registrare la vostra musica. Tagliare gli intermediari è il modo per sopravvivere di questi tempi. SEVER: Tenete a mente il quadro generale. Ogni azione che fate ricade su qualcos'altro o qualcun'altro. Includete sempre le persone vicine a voi nel vostro pogo. THOR: Siate di mente aperta con tutti i musicisti. Potete imparare qualcosa da ognuno di loro ANDY: Non rinunciare a ciò che vuoi realizzare e non smettere mai di cercare di migliorare ciò che fai Volete aggiungere qualcosa? 1ST PART Begin with the name of the band, why did you decide to call you Sumo Cyco? What subjects treat you in your songs? The name Sumo Cyco came along while we were randomly throwing words into a band name generator website. One suggestion spit out 'Sumo' an one 'Psycho'. I liked the connotations of both words as they described our sound. 'Sumo' as something big, heavy, hard to miss and 'psycho' as crazy, mad. We stole the spelling of 'psycho' to 'cyco' from the band Suicidal Tendencies, who spell cyco that way in their song title 'Cyco Vision.' The subjects of our songs are usually about some inner turmoil. Sometimes we write about relationships but not the typical 'love' relationship. I prefer to write about the odd relationships you have in your life. I also get inspired by current events or theories of life in general. 'Lost in Cyco City' was mostly written about freeing myself from my own fears, insecurities and negative thoughts. What are your main influences nowadays? Where you get the inspiration for your music?There are bands that inspire especially your sound? Our influences range between many things, music, art, movies & culture. Musically, some of our inspirations include, to name a few. Sometimes there will be a moment where I feel like I'm channeling Mike Patton or Gwen Stefani or Benji Webbe vocally. All of you have a nickname, how are they born? All of us have played in bands before, so giving each other nicknames was a way of redefining ourselves in this project. Sever comes from the idea of starting fresh, Severing the ties with the version of myself that didn't think I could get away with changing musical paths So drastically. MD13 is Matt's first and last initials and his favourite number. Thor is actually Ken's real legal middle name. The Wolf was thrown at Andy because he had a huge head of hair and liked animals‌ now the hair is shaved off and it doesn't make sense. Has it ever happened that someone of you would write a song and that did not like to the others? Matt Drake (guitar) produces all our tracks. He writes the music and then Sever writes the lyrics and melodies. Usually Sever and Matt are the two battling over what the songs sound like. Thor and Andy add the extra icing with bass parts and drum fills. I think we all have our own preferences about what tracks we like best, but I don't think there's ever a time where we wrote a song that one of us didn't like. You aims always on the top and until now you are able to get big results, in our opinion. What is the highest aspiration of the band? We'd love to be able to tell every fan that has been following us that they will be able to see us play live in a city near them. Our greatest aspiration would be to tour in more places to meet all our supporters who have been so amazing to us.

1ST PART The band has gained a lot of visibility thanks to the appearance of the video of "interceptor" in the popular program "MTV Ridiculousness" after that Skye, during the filming of the video, hits his head on a fan in the ceiling. Did you expect all of this? how have you react? We didn't expect to ever have an injury like this caught on camera, but once we saw the video we knew that it would probably get many views if we posted it. So many people watch mindless 'fail' type videos online. So knowing that people would click on the video, we made sure to tie it into the promotion of our music video. It's amazing how many fans we gained through that silly video. The debut album "Lost in Cyco City" came out last June 10, 2014 exclusively for the Canadian market. How is it born? What's it about? "Lost in Cyco City" came about because so many fans kept asking us to give them an album. Up until we released the album, we had just been releasing a single and a music video every few months. We liked doing this because it gave each song it's own spotlight and video treatment. Sometimes great songs just over looked when they're bunched in with an album‌ all the kids love singles these days. In Canada we were awarded a Factor grant to record the album, so we thought it was time to put a body of work together. Some of the songs were written years apart, but many of them are about fighting the demons within. I always say the greatest war your ever wage is the war within yourself. Your worst concert? and the best? To be honest I'm not sure if I can think of the worst & best. Every band member probably has their own preference. Mine (Sever) would say last tour in UK I was sick for a couple shows. In Derby I was probably feeling the roughest, and best would be the last show we performed in Burlington, ON. I would always say the last show should be the best because I'm more practised and experienced than I've ever been. There are behaviors in audience that you don't like? I haven't had any crowds that I didn't like. I would say as long as their respectful of the bands, staff and other fans than no issues! Do you have some superstitious ritual before going onstage? No superstitions. I personally like to take a shot of whiskey, do some stretching and warm up my voice. I always like to be by myself or just with the band in the moments before we hit the stage. I don't like to talk to people until after I play, because yelling over loud music is never good for the voice. At April you will be in Italy and Europe for a new tour. There are particular venues that would you like to visit? To be honest we're just excited to be in Europe touring and meeting new fans. Every show is going to be unique but I'm sure a total blast! We're going to rock the house down! We've always wanted to rock Italy! I hear the fans over seas are crazy!

1ST PART How is the Canadian music scene? can you tell us something about it? Can you recommend to our reader some canadians bands? The Canadian music scene is all about the 'indie' genre right now, not necessarily independent bands just 'indie' sounding bands. We feel like we don't really fit in, but being a rebel is what we all have in our blood anyway! There are some strong bands regardless though, recently we've become fans of OBGM's, Voltang, Courage My Love, Partycat, Slivergun & Spleen. There are some news that you can anticipate to our reader? Yes, we will be releasing our self-directed fifth music video from 'Lost In Cyco City' for 'Fighter' early April! We're very stoked about this song!

Epic&Fantasy Cultural Association has about 600 members incuding musicians, producers and lovers of music, art and culture. Our next projects are open new venues in Vancouver (Canada), Paris (France), and Valencia (Spain), to offer new services and opportunities to members and artists. Another new projects are the creation of a television format about music, culture and youth issues and the realization of shorts movies, tv spots and PSA in favour of young people and the community. Our purpose is to raise music at culture, especially in Italy we are trying to re-evaluate to the public the strenght and beauty of live music. We want give the youth more possibilities to make concerts and not only to see them, remembering them that live music is the best form of promotion. We would like to sensitize the Government, municipalities and institutions to promote laws and decrees that may facilitate the opening of venues, rehearsal rooms, auditoriums and thus provide incentives for the preparation and the right equipment to clubs offering live music.

TOLU WEAR Tolu, il marchio con la X cucita a mano, rappresenta il giusto connubio tra lo streetwear e il sartoriale. I capi Tolu, che spaziano dai cappelli ai papillon, dalle t-shirt alle fasce per capelli e realizzati in Italia, per la precisione in Toscana a Pietrasanta, sono tutti caratterizzati da inserti cuciti ed applicati a mano. Il mood delle collezioni Tolu si ispira al mondo della notte, ai locali, alle serate fra amici ma è anche fortemente influenzato dalla cultura skate e surf molto cara ai suoi fondatori. Entrando nello specifico dei prodotti le collezioni unisex inverno-estate sono costituite da tshirt monocromatiche con un taschino stampato sul petto e completato con un “vero” taschino confezionato ed applicato a mano, affiancato dalla frase “We are the boys that your parents warned you about!”. Oltre alle tee (ultima arrivata in casa Tolu è la nuova maglia con “mega T” stamapta e X impunturata in lana) e felpe con gli stessi concetti di stile, Tolu ha da sempre creduto nel beanie (classico berretto adottato dalla cultura undergound e urban ) e nel fisherman (cappello in lana pesante simbolo di viaggiatori ed avventurieri). Come già spiegato in precedenza Tolu non punta solo allo streetwear ma anche ad un “classico rivisitato” come i papillon confezionati a mano e le fasce per capelli da ragazza in lana o in tessuto anche queste completamente confezionate dalle abilissime mani di una sarta. Concetto fondamentale di questo brand è che i taschini come le stoffe utilizzate per i papillon o per la stessa produzione dei capi sono in continua evoluzione e cambiamento, è impossibile trovare due t-shirt Tolu identiche in quanto vi è sempre una ricerca continua di nuovi materiali da utilizzare, ogni serie di maglie, felpe, papillon è come se fosse una piccola collezione limitata, una capsule irripetibile. I due fondatori di Tolu sono Lorenzo Tognetti e Nicola Luisi (il nome del marchio nasce appunto dall’unione delle iniziali dei loro cognomi), il primo laureato in Design si occupa dello stile di Tolu e delle grafiche, il secondo invece gestisce la parte della distribuzione e marketing affiancato dalla sorella Eleonora che si occupa dei social e del commerciale. Le idee e le passioni di questi ragazzi hanno ispirato il marchio, nato appunto dalla loro volontà di esprimere con qualcosa di concreto il loro approccio alla vita e alla moda.
