Nuclear energy featured in APEC discussion Mangupura (Bali Post)—
Many options can be done to accelerate the development of renewable energy projects. One of the options that can be an attractive offer of the alternative energy amid the desire to move from fossil energy sources such as oil is the Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN). The Head of Center for Reactor Technology and Nuclear Safety, the National Nuclear Energy Agency (Batan), Setiyanto, in his presentation related to the alternative energy becoming one of the discussions in the APEC Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali, Wednesday (Oct 2), said that of the countries with the largest population in the world, only Indonesia that currently had not been utilizing the nuclear energy. “Potential of nuclear as an alternative energy can be seen from many unopened uranium mines in Indonesia. Actually, the potential of nuclear both in Indonesia and the world is huge. Moreover, many uranium mines such as in Kalimantan and Papua is still unopened at all,” he said. To build a small-sized nuclear power plant, he said, would take approximately 7 years. “It will be better if the nuclear power plant is started from now,” he said. Setiyanto added that in terms of technology, the use of nuclear seemed to indicate a continuous
renewal. It meant the level of risk that might be caused by nuclear was possibly increasingly low. Nevertheless, he admitted that related to nuclear energy there were concerns in the wider community. But, with sophistication of technology, the issue could have been answered. “In terms of cost, the nuclear energy is also cheaper than the others. But one thing should be understood at this time is that nuclear poses an alternative without having to remove the other energies. And please bear in mind that nuclear is just to complete,” he explained. To be noted, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference on Clean, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Use of Energy (APCRES) discussed three subjects. Firstly, it was the APEC Energy Senior Officers Discussion Forum that discussed about the investment cooperation, capacity building as well as the issues related to energy policy to promote clean energy and renewable energy

When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple.
