“The Troubles” in NORTHERN IRELAND Your Itinerary Sept. 5 & 6 - Depart USA, arrive in Belfast, Historic tour of “Troubles” area & Welcome Gathering Depart the USA, arrive in Belfast; Belfast Tour with emphasis on the areas most affected by the confrontations between Catholic and Protestant locals known as "The Troubles." Check into your hotel in Belfast, visit East Belfast Mission for dinner and a welcome meeting. Sept. 7 - C. S. Lewis Tour of Belfast & Afternoon Session Walk the streets of Belfast with Alexander Smith, author and authority on C. S. Lewis and his childhood in Belfast, lunch in the city, return to the East Belfast Mission for an afternoon session on the history of Northern Ireland and how that affects the present community and its issues. Meet with locals from both sides of the conflict and learn about their paths to reconciliation. Have dinner at the mission. Return to Belfast hotel for overnight. Sept. 8 - Downpatrick, Newry, Armagh & Evening Q and A with Catholic and Protestant leaders Visit Downpatrick and Down Cathedral Visitor Center to learn how Christianity came to Ireland, then Newry, and Armagh. Return to Belfast for dinner at the mission and an opportunity to hear from a Catholic and Protestant leader with Q & A session afterwards. Return to Belfast hotel for overnight.

Your Itinerary May 2 & 3 - Depart USA & Arrive in Warsaw Depart on your international overnight flight. Your guide will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel for dinner and overnight. Evening Discussion: Lecture on the Warsaw Ghetto May 4 - Warsaw – City Tour / Ghetto Memorials / Warsaw Rising Museum / Polish- Jewish Museum Walk the streets of Warsaw, home to the resilience of the Polish people. See Royal Bahts Park, the Chopin Monument, Holy Cross Church, Prozna Street (the last remnant of the Nazi Warsaw Ghetto). Stop at Maly Powstaniec. Reflect at the Umschlagplatz. Spend time at the Museum of Independence complex and visit the Pawlak Prison and Mausoleum of Struggle and Martyrdom. See a portion of the Ghetto Wall and then finish the day at the Nozyk Synagogue. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. Evening Discussion: Post-War Poland Communist and Independent State. May 5 - Aushwitz / Birkenau Concentration Camp / to Krakow Depart Warsaw. Walk the grounds of Auschwitz. Then travel through the Polish countryside to Krakow, where you will check into your hotel for dinner and overnight. May 6 - Krakow / City tour – Old Town, Wawel Castle and the Kazimierz (Jewish Quarter). Walk down a portion of the Royal Way to Wawel Castle. Explore the Kazimierz (Jewish Quarter). This afternoon, visit Oskar Schindler's factory and Musuem. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight. Evening Discussion: History of Passive and Active Resistance to Racial Persecution.

May 7 - to Prague – Riese Bunkers and Ksiaz Castle – Gliwitz Radio Tower Leave Krakow and travel to Ksiaz Castle. See the Riese Bunkers. See the Gliwice Radio Tower. Finish your day in Prague, where you will check into your hotel for dinner and overnight. Evening Discussion: Impact of World War II on the People of Eastern Europe and the Scars that remain today. May 8 - Prague – City tour with Jewish History Enjoy a city tour of Prague. Explore Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. Walk the streets of the Stare Misto (Old Town) with its Astronomical Clock. Visit Wenceslas Square. Walk the streets of the Jewish Ghetto. See the Ceremonial Hall and visit a synagogue that is part of the Jewish Museum of Prague. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight. Evening Discussion: History of Jews in Eastern Europe. May 9 - Lidice and Terezin Tour (Prague) Travel to Lidice. Stop at the memorial to the murdered children of Lidice and the small museum there. Continue to Terezin fortress that was transformed by the Nazis into a concentration camp. Return to Prague for time to explore and shop in the city, before returning to your hotel for dinner and overnight. Evening Discussion: How to apply what you've learned to your community when you return home. May 10 - Return to USA or Berlin Extension
