HAPPY EARTH DAY! By Tommy O., Matthew M., and William H.

Earth Day Earth Day is Thursday, April 22nd. This is the day where we start cleaning up: cleaning up trash, cleaning up the leaves, clean up when you mess up!

Car emissions put out smoke and pollute the Earth. They should reduce fossil fuels like coal. Use unleaded gasoline or use the public CTA to get to work.

VEGETABLE GARDEN By Lucy P. I planted flowers outside with my peers and Raul. I like the way the flowers bloom. All the Kruger clients and Westtown along with me. We planted some vegetables some tomatoes and some kind of fruit. We planted the seeds. It was pretty nice. We can eat it after we grow, like peas, tomatoes, and watermelon.

GETTING READY FOR SPRING By the Lewandowski Journalism Club Some of us are thinking about gardens. At the Lewandowski Center this week, many clients will be planting seeds in dirt. These are the vegetables we would like to have in our garden: tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, kale, carrots, spinach, peppers, and more. Another thing we are doing to get ready for spring is putting away our sweaters and winter clothes. During the pandemic, many people started gardening. But not all of us like to garden. Some of us, like Linda, would rather go to the movies.

PLANTING TOMATOES By Kasandra M. I planted tomatoes: tomatillos, brandywine tomatoes, yellowpear tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes, red cabernet tomatoes, and jalapeño peppers with Raul. It was nice. I like helping Raul out with the plants and stuff. I put dirt in it, filled up the little cups, every single one. Put the seeds in there, put the water in it, then that's it I guess! Keep on checking on it to make sure it's not too dry every day.

A TRIP TO THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO

By Dahla K., Candice G., Remon G., and Benjamin C. Four members of Rose Center had the chance to go to the Art Institute of Chicago and see Bisa Butlers exhibit. Here are their takes on the day:

“I took PACE to the Art Institute of Chicago, it was a long ride, I had to go down Lake Shore Drive. I felt excellent and happy on my way to the museum. I was looking out the window and I saw a lot of water and waves hitting against the rocks. I saw a lot of people running and dogs outside running next to the water. I saw the Bears Stadium, Solider Field. We went to an exhibit that was created by a Black artist named Bisa Butler. I saw quilts and men and women on the quilts. I wanted to see American Gothic, which is of a lady and a man holding a stick. I walked around a lot and I asked a security guard where the painting was, and he told us where to go. I liked it [once I was able to see the painting]. We went to the gift shop, and I bought a shirt that had American Gothic on it. I bought American Gothic as well which was in a picture frame. I felt really tired after the museum, and waited for my ride, I was happy to see my friends there and at the end, I had a great, great day with my peers.” - Remon

“I took CDT Transportation to the Art Institute of Chicago. I was happy. I liked the glass mirror that we took a picture next to. We saw the quilts, the different quilts. I bought a Monet Bag in the gift shop that I use as a lunch bag.” - Dahla

“I liked the pictures. I want to go back. I liked the mirror. I took PACE to the Art Institute of Chicago. A color that stood out to me at the museum was pink.” - Candice

Staff: “Did you have fun at the Art Institute?” Benjamin: “Yes it is!”

GENEVA AND GENIEL GO TO THE DOLLAR STORE AND DUNKIN DONUTS Sisters Geneva and Geniel ventured out into the community to different places of their choices. For the very first time, they selected and paid for their purchases independently. You go girls! I went to Dunkin Donuts with Hannah, Kasandra, Haywood, and Clonita. I bought Mimy a glazed donut. I bought my sister a glazed donut. I paid my money by myself out of my wallet. "I want one glazed for Mimy and one glazed for Geneva." I wait til Mimy come out to eat a donut. I eat outside at the table in the parking lot. -Geniel B.

I went to the dollar store with Hannah, Clonita, Jamie, Charles, Vahid, Linda, and Tommy. I buy some candy. I buy Pay Day and for Geniel some gummy bears. I paid for Geniel and me. I paid the lady my money. Then I came back to Westtown. -Geneva B.

WEAVING FITNESS by William C.

We are going to do a video about weaving fitness. It is going to be lots of fun. Me and Jimmy the guy talked to Emily about doing “weaving fitness,” and Emily was really happy and surprised! We went to the weaving area and pretended that we were winding the loom. Also, we are sleying the reed. This is going to improve our strength of our movement and our muscles. I want to clean the media room before I film the weaving fitness video.

Easter Church by Jamie P.

I went to church on Sunday, April 4, 2021 for Easter. I had an amazing day at church. We were seated at the chair. They were singing, and after, Brian Nelson said to get up and sing with them. I was so blessed to hear Brian Nelson singing so strong and

excellent. "We went to the museum store." I said, "This is a good place." I saw lots of science like rulers, pencils, crayons, and scissors. I had an angus burger, french fries, and soft drinks. I had a great day at the Museum of Science and Industry. We had a lot of fun. It was great. The museum was great. I hope this article is long. I like going

JUSTICE FOR GEORGE FLOYD | MARCH 30, 2021 Lewandowski Journalism Club

This week, the trial of the police officer who killed George Floyd in Minneapolis in May 2020 begins. The sad event of the death of George Floyd sparked protests around the world. It was another horrible example of racism in America. The Black Lives Matter movement started a few years ago after the death of Trayvon Martin and too many others. Hundreds of thousands of people of all ages and races joined together to protest police brutality.

These are difficult times. So we want to take care of ourselves. It’s important to be informed but we also need to have fun. What do you do for fun?

OUR CANALS | APRIL 6, 2021 Lewandowski Journalism Club

One of the world’s biggest cargo ships blocked the Suez Canal. It disrupted world trade. Shipping is what connects the world’s economy. It is why stores have items on their shelves. Canals are an important short cut. There are two major canals in the world – the Suez Canal in Egypt and the Panama Canal in Central America. For six days, the Suez Canal was blocked. How did this happen? High winds made the huge ship (called the Ever Given) hard to steer and it turned sideways. There were 18,300 containers on board. By the time the massive ship was freed, there were more than 300 ships in both directions waiting to pass.

STAYCATION | APRIL 20, 2021 Lewandowski Journalism Club

Last week we were planting seeds and today it’s snowing. It’s April in Chicago! But we know summer is coming, so we’re thinking about places in the city where we want to go and things we want to do. We are planning our staycations. Yvonne would like go to the museums, and so would Jeff and Eunice. “You see a lot of art and pictures.” said Jeff. “And fish!,” said Yvonne, adding the Shedd Aquarium to the list of places she wants to visit. Eunice remembers going to Rainbo Beach with her daughter. Josie loves carnivals. Chicago is famous for its neighborhood street fairs. “I want to go on rides,” said Josie “Me too,” said Eunice. Jeff remembers going horseback riding. “I wish I could do that again,” he said. We still will have to social distance, but we plan to go out and have fun.

STING Steve Borden has two names - Sting and The Stinger. He is a wrestler. He has a family. I like the different outfits. He has jackets/coats. I like his red coat when he fought Triple H. He has a wrestling outfit under his clothes. They call him the King of Kings. My favorite wrestling match is between him and Ric Flair. They call Ric Flair "Nature Boy." I used to have the video, but I don't got it no more. My favorite is his makeup at the Great American Bash. He's always mysterious. He likes to hide in the stadium. I like the Hall of Fame ceremony. He's in the TNA Hall of Fame. Dixie Carter inducted him in there. I like when he has that baseball bat and he points it at somebody. I like his cars, especially the red car. The door opens upward and he comes out of it. I'd like to meet him. He's on AEW Dynamite. He has new entrance music and snowflakes come down. I like his interviews. My favorite is with Tony Schiavone and Jim Ross. I like Jim Ross' BBQ book and his BBQ sauce. He fought Hulk Hogan one time and beat him! He was standing where the ring is and didn't look at him. He didn't want to fight the guy. I met Hulk Hogan once on my birthday last year. I talked to him on the telephone once. I like Sting's makeup. On WCW they talked about him. He doesn't talk that much - he's very quiet. He has a bird, I think it's a hawk. His entrance has a bird. I want to say Happy Holidays to his family and friends. I give Sting 5/5 stars because the first time I ever saw him fight Ric Flair, that was my favorite fight! They were both in the Four Horseman, then they got kicked out. I also like the makeup he puts on his face. It's hard to do it like that.

CHARLES' ENTERTAINMENT REVIEW FROZEN Frozen is about two girls that live in a castle with their parents. Their parents tell them a story about the forest, about their grandpa, how he helped. Anna tries to find her sister Elsa in the castle. It's all frozen in there, and she tries to bring her home to try to save the forest. Elsa wears the gloves to cover her hands to not do the magic. The cast that does the voices to the characters do a good job. Their real faces are different from their characters. Idina Menzel plays Elsa and Kristen Bell plays Anna. Elsa and Anna are funny - the way they talk to each other and the way they talk about the forest. Elsa goes to the ice castle and Anna tried to bring her back home. Josh Gad plays the snowman, Olaf. I think he does a good job at that. Olaf is funny. I like the scarf he wears. He's my favorite. Jonathan Groff does the voice of the reindeer Sven. He does a good job, a good voice! He doesn't say nothing, just stands there. The people who play the parents both do a good job. I like all of them. They're all good characters. I like the way they talk and the costumes they wear. I like the music. My favorite song is "Frozen Heart." It's different, the way they play the music and animate the music. It's an orchestra. The first and the second movies are both good. I give it 4/5 stars because I love it so much.
