MTSS in Washington State Schools
Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is an innovative educational framework designed to enhance the overall learning experience for students. It operates on a proactive approach, aiming to address the varying needs of individual students in areas such as academics, behavior, and social-emotional development. In essence, MTSS ensures that every student receives access to high-quality grade-level curricula, and it provides additional targeted support for those who may require it, fostering a more supportive learning environment.
As an organizational approach to unifying and coordinating the efforts of educators; promoting data-based decision-making, collaborative team-driven leadership, and evidence-based strategies, MTSS seeks to optimize resources and support mechanisms. MTSS allows for a more personalized and effective learning experience for every student, contributing to the overall improvement of educational outcomes.
MTSS in ESD
The implementation of MTSS in the Enumclaw School District involves several initiatives at all grade levels. In elementary schools, a master schedule has been adopted in each building to facilitate specific interventions and extensions to the core instructional programs that are consistent and effective. At the secondary level, schools are examining their academic materials, making a focused effort to establish common expectations for student management. District-wide, social-emotional curriculum has been integrated into academic routines, as well as training for all staff to better support the individual needs of students. A key aspect of the successful implementation of MTSS is the establishment of clear goals and the ongoing monitoring of their success. Beginning this school year, the District announced the Five Commitments as a framework to assess progress toward the overarching goal of inspiring students to learn, lead, and impact their community and the world. This strategic approach ensures that the District remains focused on measurable outcomes and striving to enhance the educational experience for all students.
