Lots to Love About Lima
Next Article
By Sandra MacGregor
Peru’s capital city has a lot to offer – here are just a few reasons why it’s so easy to fall in love with Lima.
CITY SIGHTS
Set aside at least a few days to explore this beguiling, energetic city. Spend a day walking around the bohemian Barranco neighbourhood. In the city’s creative centre, you’ll enjoy street art, funky shops (Dédalo is a favourite), interesting art galleries like MATE Mario Testino Museum (featuring modern art and photography), colonial mansions, and trendy bistros and bars.
In the upscale shopping area of the Miraflores district, visit pre-Inca ruins Huaca Pucllana. Afterwards, check out the cliff-hugging Larcomar mall. Museo Larco, with a well-displayed collection that spans over 5,000 years of Peru’s history, is not to be missed.
PERUVIAN CUISINE
Home to a host of innovative young chefs, the city offers an intriguing culinary cornucopia, ranging from award-winning, high-end dining to modern takes on Peruvian home cooking. Treat yourself to the best Lima has to offer with a trip to Central.
In 2019, it was ranked #6 by the respected “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants” awards. The incredible tasting menu is the best way to sample all that Peru’s various ecosystems – from the peaks of the Andean mountains to the waters of the Amazon – have to offer. Isolina, in the vibrant Barranco neighbourhood, features elevated Peruvian comfort food.
WHERE TO STAY
Perched on a cliff, the Belmond Miraflores Park in Lima’s exclusive Malecón de la Reserva neighbourhood embodies elegant luxury and features a heated outdoor infinity pool and a bath butler. Try a pisco sour at the Belo Bar, or try Peruvian-international cuisine at the Tragaluz restaurant.
Belmond Miraflores Park is part of Ensemble’s Hotel and Resort Collection and includes the following
