« eParticipation through e - Media » The Challenge As aging is an emerging issue in Europe, there is a clear need for adjusted, personal assist technologies and services. Within the Apollon project we will evaluate the use of cross-border network Living Labs in the development and market introduction of such applications and technologies. During the experiments SMEs will develop, adjust and introduce their products in to new emerging markets in strong collaboration with local stakeholders.

The Cross - Bo rder Experiments Digital Fort in Issy - les - Moulineaux (F rance ) The Digital Fort is a new Green and Hi-Tech district that is being built in the place of the historical Fort in Issy-les-Moulineaux (destroyed in the war of 1870). A cross-media documentary on the Fort’s rich history, complemented by a 3D Urban Plan and RFID tags, 2D-barcodes and geo-localisation which will link content (images and text) on the Fort to objects and places around the city will help citizens understand what is happening in their neighbourhood and take part in the urban planning of their city.

Augmented Libraries and Galleries in Manchester ( UK ) Manchester's main public library was closed in June 2010 for three years of refurbishment and renovation. QR codes linking to various web resources, generated and located at various physical locations in the city will allow citizens to stay informed about what is happening to the building and ensure the continuity of the library facilities use. The Decoding Art project aims to widen access to and increase participation in the arts by citizens and visitors and develop new audiences.

Twenty public art works in the city will be tagged and each QR code will link to a web page with content (text & MP3 audio clip) about that art work.

University Campus of the Future in Brussels ( Belgium ) The Campus of the Future project will combine the image of the university as an institution and the campus as a physical social space. Students, teachers, as well as other stakeholders will be able to meet online on a virtual 3D campus that will facilitate the dialogue and exchange of good ideas in an interactive way. Content will be user-generated and published in real-time on the platform, allowing thus to create a shared memory of the relations with the educational space and a collective “perceived university�. Moreover, using the student smart card on certain RFID-readers on the campus could have also consequences in the virtual campus.
