Gannon and Manyweather named Greatest Greyhounds

Seniors Jasmine Gannon (BS 21) and Justin Manyweather (BS 21) earned the Female and Male Greatest Greyhounds titles for the 2021-22 athletic season.

Jasmine capped off a four-season career with the Greyhounds as the team’s leader on offense and defense in 2021. Jasmine is the first volleyball student-athlete to receive the honor since Lauryn Frye won the award in 2016 and 2017. In 2021, the Clovis, New Mexico native led the Greyhounds squad in kills per set, points per set and digs. The outside hitter also posted 27 service aces, 0.28 service aces per set and 2.76 digs per set

Jasmine Gannon

In the LSC, Jasmine finished the 2021 season as one of the top offensive players in the conference, earning All-LSC Second team. In her career, she has been awarded several honors from the Lone Star Conference, named to the All-LSC First Team and All-Academic Team in 2018, the All-Tournament team in 2018 and 2021, and landed on the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll seven times.

Over four seasons, Jasmine totaled 112 games in a Greyhound uniform, playing in 423 sets. Offensively, she notched 1,175 kills with 2.78 kills per set, adding 55 service aces, totaling 1,314.0 points and 3.11 points per set. On the defensive side, Jasmine collected 794 digs and held 1.88 digs per set. In 2021, she recorded their best season for hitting percentage, assists, service aces, digs, digs per set, and blocks per set.

Justin, a member of the ENMU football team, is the 77th Male Greatest Greyhound and Jasmine, of women’s volleyball, is the 42nd Female Greatest Greyhound in the university’s history.

The Greatest Greyhound awards date back to 1940-41 on the men’s side and 1978-79 on the women’s side, honoring student-athletes displaying the highest degree of athletic achievement, academic success, leadership qualities, community involvement and positive representation of Eastern New Mexico University. ENMU head coaches and administrative staff vote on the award.

Justin Manyweather

Justin ended his Greyhound career with a phenomenal season as Eastern’s leading receiver and kick returner. The Los Angeles, California native paced the Hounds with a season-high 751 receiving yards, 11 receiving touchdowns, and 48 receptions. As a returner, he picked up 322 kick-return yards with one kickoff-return touchdown and 131 punt-return yards. Justin also hauled in more than 100 receiving yards in four games, including a career-best 246 yards and 15 catches against Western New Mexico, when he was named Lone Star Conference (LSC) Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts for the conference office.

During the 2021 season, Justin set several single-game and season records at ENMU, including single-game records for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. His 11 touchdowns in 2021 are the third-most in a single season and the most by an ENMU receiver since 1985.

Football Season Tickets Now Available

The ENMU Greyhound football team begins its home slate on Sept. 10 against reigning Lone Star Conference (LSC) champions Midwestern State on Military Appreciation Night. A complete listing of all games can be found at GoEasternAthletics.com.

Seat options at Greyhound Stadium include the brand new Dawg Houze Bar and Runnerz Cantina VIP tent ($253), reserved chair back seating ($125), reserved bucket seats ($100), “In The Game” tickets ($75), lower level reserved seats ($75), premium bleacher tickets ($50), and ADA seats ($50).

All tickets are available throughout the season, with season tickets sold on a first-come, first-served basis. “In The Game” tickets are a new experience seated in the lower level section and come with a concession credit to each game (minimum of two tickets purchased).

Additionally, ENMU is providing military members complimentary reserved seating.

ENMU SAAC Holds First Annual Greyhound Gala

Eastern New Mexico University’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its first annual Greyhound Gala in April to honor and recognize ENMU student-athletes. Six students earned individual awards and one team earned a Team Cup award.

Spencer Roach

Spencer Roach (ENMU Baseball) claimed Male Athlete of the Year after having an impressive start to the 2022 season. Spencer was recognized this season as the Lone Star Conference (LSC) Hitter of the Week and the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Central Hitter of the Week.

Malethabo Seema

Malethabo Seema (BS 22, ENMU Cross Country and Track & Field) took home Female Athlete of the Year. Malethabo finished in the top 30 for the 2021 LSC Cross Country Championship and competed in the 2021 NCAA South Central Regional.

Tamia Smith

Tamia Smith (ENMU Track & Field) was named Sophomore of the Year after holding the top five marks in the shot put for program history.

Mikaela Garvin

Mikaela Garvin (ENMU Volleyball) picked up Freshman Athlete of the Year after a tremendous first year with the team. Mikaela was named LSC Freshman of the Year and was selected to the All-LSC Freshman team. She was also named LSC Offensive Player of the Week.

Kelvin Kipkemboi

Kelvin Kipkemboi (ENMU Cross Country)earned Junior Athlete of the Year. Kelvin boasted a 10th place finish at the 2021LSC Championships and the performance earned All-Conference recognition and LSC Newcomer of the Year.

Rae Sapiga

Rae Sapiga (BSW 22, ENMU Volleyball) is theSenior Athlete of the Year. Rae led the team in assists, assists per set and service aces. She was named LSC Setter of the Week after a combined 57 assists against Texas A&M-International and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The ENMU Team Cup, determined by the number of ENMU student-athletes that attended other teams’ games, was awarded to the Greyhound softball team.
