Georgia Marble Festival

This festival is an excellent chance for everyone to learn about the history of Pickens County, while having fun, and making new memories.

On the first full weekend in October, the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center hosts the annual Georgia Marble Festival, a celebration of the marble industry’s historic and intrinsic value to the community. Festivalgoers come to Lee Newton Park in Jasper to tour the largest open-pit marble quarry in the world. Marble from this quarry has been used in the construction of the Lincoln Memorial, twenty-four columns on the east front of the U.S. Capitol, and our very own Tate Elementary School. Visitors can watch demonstrations by artisans specializing in pottery, chainsaw carving, marble sculpting, and more, including the creation of a marble sculpture that will be presented to the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center and proudly displayed. Featuring a parade, arts and crafts, live performances, 5K and 1-mile Fun Run road race and fun run, Kids Zone, a delectable selection of festival foods, and more. The festival is an excellent chance for everyone to come learn about the history of Pickens County, have fun, and make some memories.
