Burnt Mountain Preserve

Among 900 acres of preserved wilderness with abundant wildflowers, flowing creeks and streams, and wildlife, Burnt Mountain Preserve offers three hiking trails for hikers of all skill levels. The 0.3-mile Crest Trail is rated easy and is recommended for hikers to build stamina before embarking on the more difficult trails. The one-mile Preserve Trail is rated moderate and is ideal for birdwatching, hiking, and walking. For more experienced hikers, the two-mile Champion Trail is a challenging trail with a steep descent leading to a creek and cascading waterfall below followed by a steep ascent back to the loop’s origin. 2686 – 2964 Highway 136

Doris Wigington City Park

A certified Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary, Doris Wigington City Park features three and a half miles of walking trails open each day from daylight to dusk. A cabana was added in 2019 thanks to a donation from nonprofit organization Keep Pickens Beautiful. Eagle’s Rest Park at Mount Oglethorpe

Experience the views at Eagle’s Rest Park at Mount Oglethorpe via their viewing decks and public hiking trails then enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the park’s picnic areas. The half-mile Eagle’s Rest Trail is wellsuited for beginning hikers with minimal difficulty and minor elevation changes. Lee Newton Park

Home to Pickens County Veterans Memorial Park, Lee Newton Park is a community gathering space with an event stage, small creek, walking trails, public restrooms, and a large grassy activity lawn. Since 2002, Keep Pickens Beautiful has maintained the park’s Memorial and Honorary Garden with picnic space, benches, and a pergola. The organization began renovation of the garden space in 2022 including path reconstruction and improvements. Each October the park welcomes Pickens residents and visitors for the annual Georgia Marble Festival. Robert P. Jones Community Center

At Roper Park, the 30,000-square-foot Robert P. Jones Community Center features two full-size gymnasiums, indoor walking track, swimming pool, and an outdoor basketball court. Roper Park

Roper Park features a paved walking trail, playground, public pool, and a pavilion available for event rental. With baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, and soccer fields, the park is also home to the Recreation Department’s many youth sports teams. In 2018 the Rotary Club added a Children’s Music Park offering children a freestyle opportunity to explore their musical talents. This addition was made possible by generous local donors. Veterans Memorial Park was dedicated in August 2018 as a gathering space to honor our armed forces and to educate future generations about the freedoms won through the heroic actions of our veterans.
