Appalachian Trail—No Age Limit

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy reports more than 20,000 people have hiked the entire fourteen-state, 2,190-mile Appalachian Trail. Of those 20,000 hikers, only fifty people were age seventy or older. “I wanted to be in that group,” says Richard Smith, a seventy-five-year-old Canton resident. He smiles with pride and adds, “I completed the trail in seven months and two days.”
