Research Assistant Sought for SSHRC-funded Research Project Project: Digging beneath the surface: an intersectional investigation of the diversity of trans youth experience Direct Supervisors: Kimberley Manning (Principal, Simone de Beauvoir Institute) and Gabrielle Bouchard (Peer and Support Trans Advocacy Coordinator, Centre for Gender Advocacy) Project Description: The Digging beneath the surface project is a community-based participatory actionresearch qualitative research project investigating the interaction of oppressive and resilience factors experienced by trans youth in Quebec, and the effects of such factors on trans youth’s wellbeing. The methodology rests on three phases of semi-structured interviews and knowledge translation events. Experience Sought: We are looking for a Master’s level student who has a background in transgender issues. To fulfill this project’s methodological and ethical requirements, and as specified in the grant application, trans-identified applicants will be prioritized for this position. People with disabilities, women, Indigenous peoples, members of racialized groups and members of other historically marginalized communities are encouraged to apply. When candidates do not differ significantly in merit, and one such candidate belongs to a historically underrepresented group, Employment Equity requires that the member in this group will be selected. Appropriate accessibility accommodations will be arranged as they arise. Role: The successful applicant will be trained to undertake 6 interviews, write memos, and undertake initial coding by cluster. We anticipate no more than 125 hours of work will be required. Remuneration: $21.25/hour Applications: Please send a cv and cover letter via email to Kimberley Manning with the words “trans youth experience” in the subject line. We will review applications beginning on October 31. The successful applicant will begin work on November 14, 2016.
