Church Presents Funds To LUMINA

Creative Works of Lancaster will present “Jaws to the World: A Holiday Sock Opera,” a musical sock puppet parody of the movie “Jaws,” on Friday, Dec. 9, at Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse, 112 N. Water St., with performances at 6, 8 and 10 p.m.

On hiatus since “Sock Puppet Star Wars: The Skywalker Sock-a,” in December 2018, the Creative Works sock puppets will go back in the water 10 years after the premiere of “Jaws to the World: A Holiday Sock Opera” in 2012 at the Lancaster Dispensing Company.

“Jaws to the World: A Holiday Sock Opera” will include singing sharks and cardboard boats as five actor-puppeteers wield a cast of more than 30 custom-designed, handmade sock puppets. Originally written by playwright and former Creative Works board member Erich Goldstein, the script has been newly updated and refreshed with Erich’s blessing by current board member Alexander Bannon. Musical director Joshua Schwartz from the original production will return to lead the cast’s performances of rock and pop music and Christmas carols.

Creative Works’ pay what you decide (PWYD) ticketing model guarantees that no one will be turned away due to financial limitations. Audience members are asked to reserve a ticket in advance and pay what they think the experience was worth after the performance.

Tickets can be reserved at www.zoetropolis.com. Those who reserve a ticket will be sent a PWYD link after the performances. Tickets may also be available at the door, but reservations are encouraged.

Creative Works of Lancaster receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Learn more about Creative Works at www.creativelancaster.org.

Lititz United Methodist Church (LUMC) member Nicky Smith (right) presented a $1,500 check to Correen Russo from the nonprofit LUMINA during the church’s Trunk or Treat on Oct. 30. The check represented the proceeds of this year’s annual Peach Festival held in September.

Holiday Movie Night Planned

The classic holiday film “The Polar Express” will be shown on a large screen among the historic trains during Movie Night in Rolling Stock Hall at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 Gap Road, Strasburg, on Saturday, Dec. 10. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the movie will begin at 6:30 p.m.

In “The Polar Express,” on Christmas Eve, a steam locomotive passenger train known as the Polar Express stops at the house of a boy who is growing skeptical about the existence of Santa Claus. The conductor says the train is traveling to the North Pole, and the boy, although reluctant at first, climbs aboard.

Each ticket includes a screening of the film, popcorn, and hot chocolate. Advance tickets are available at www.eventbrite.com. If available, tickets will be sold at the door.

For more information, visit www.rrmuseumpa.org or call 717-687-8628. The proceeds of movie night will benefit the nonprofit Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.
