As a nonprofit organization, PMEF relies on community support. On Sunday, Sept. 19, PMEF will host its annual dinner fundraising gala. The event will take place outdoors at Drumore Estate, 331 Red Hill Road, Pequea, and will begin at 5:30 p.m. The ticket cost will provide attendees with hors d’oeuvres, refreshments, and dinner. The gala will include a pre-dinner reception featuring giveaways and a silent auction with items donated by the community, such as sporting packages, tickets to local entertainment, and handcrafted artisan items. A live auction will take place during the outdoor dinner program under the tent. Items that will be featured in the live auction include a vacation getaway, a surf and turf dinner party, a night-on-the-town package that includes transportation, and tickets to several sporting events. The PMEF board, the administration, and the gala committee will stock a beach-themed wagon with libations as a live auction item, which is usually popular among returning guests. The master of ceremonies for the evening will be Kristy Aurand of Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County. Aurand and her family also live in the PMSD. Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about PMEF and connect with other members of the community.
“I’m all about relations, so if we can connect new people to each other at the event and have them mutually benefit from attending, then I will be super happy,” said gala co-chair Jerissa Warfel.

“Being in a beautiful venue with familiar faces and new faces will be very exciting for our guests,” stated PMEF executive director Jan Mindish.

Every year, the Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, 625 Community Way, Lancaster, serves more than 4,000 children. The Schreiber Center provides outpatient and in-home pediatric therapy services, such as occupational, physical, and speech-language therapy, for children from birth to the age of 21. In addition, the Schreiber Center offers early education preschool and child care services, recreational programs, behavioral health services, summer camps, and specialized classes for parents.
“The people at Schreiber are amazing,” said Lititz resident Michael Mengel. When Michael’s youngest daughter, Nicole Mengel, was 2 years old, she received speech-language therapy from Schreiber until she began kindergarten. “Nicole would not be where she is now without the help of Schreiber,” stated Michael. Nicole recently graduated from Adelphi University in Long Island with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science.
On Sunday, Sept. 12, the Schreiber Center will host its 33rd annual Rubber Duckie Race and Festival. This rain-or-shine event will take place from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at the Lancaster County Central Park, 1050 Rockford Road, Lancaster. There will be food, pony rides, face painting, and more. Attendees will see a race between nearly 25,000 ducks as they float down the Conestoga River.
When people register for a racing duckie, they can receive a themed souvenir duckie. Themes include superheroes and ninjas, down on the farm, tech and gaming, foodie, and more.
