The Friends of Lancaster Public Library will host the 66th annual Big Book Sale on Monday to Wednesday, Aug. 23 to 25. The event will mark its second year in the former BonTon building at Park City Center, 600 Park City Center, Lancaster. Proceeds will directly benefit Lancaster Public Library and its patrons.
The book sale will be open on Aug. 23 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 24, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 25 will be a halfprice sale. For the health and safety of customers and volunteers, face masks will be required at the book sale. Credit cards are welcome, parking is free, and Park City Center offers a variety of on-site eating options.

With more than 150,000 square feet, the venue allows customers to social distance while browsing more than 250,000 used books plus thousands of other items, including vinyl records, sheet music, audiobooks, CDs, and DVDs. Individually priced books, including collectible and current fiction and nonfiction, will be for sale. This year, there is an expanded section of foreign language books, and there will be a table dedicated to puzzles and games.
After a record-breaking sale in 2020, Mary Armstrong has returned as chair of the book sale. She is seeking community volunteers to help with book sale setup and teardown.
The Friends of Lancaster Public Library raise nearly $200,000 annually by holding book sales, hosting fundraisers, and operating two bookstores that are open year-round. Penn Manor head softball coach Dave Stokes and the All Seasons Patriots recently won the 50+ USA Fast-Pitch National Tournament in Fort Myers, Fla. Stokes, who went 3-0 in the tournament, was named MVP as he gave up only two runs in 21 innings pitched.
Stokes pitched four innings in pool play before tossing a seveninning shutout over Ohio Battery, last year’s champ. He pitched the last four innings of the second game and followed up with a two-hit shutout in the championship game against Bay Area Merchants out of Portland, Ore.

Live Aid Tribute Show Planned
A Live Aid Tribute Show will be held on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at Long’s Park, 1441 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. Local musicians will perform in celebration of one of the world’s biggest concerts.
Attendees are asked to bring canned goods for donation to the Lancaster County Food Hub. Needed items include shelfstable microwaveable meals; healthy pastas; sugar-free fruit cans or cups; canned vegetables, particularly green beans; 100% juice with no sugar added in a 32-ounce size or larger; white and brown rice; paper towels; and hygiene items, such as toothpaste,
deodorant, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper and socks and underwear for men and women in all sizes, especially larger sizes. Concerts will continue on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. and will follow current health protocols. For more details, visit www.longspark.org.
